Grabbing Nose or Method on a HS Backroll

Have my HS backrolls down, can do them small, big, wake-to-wake or out into the flats but I cant seem to be able to grab them. Always try to go for the grab straight off the wake but the board is always too far away by the time I have pushed it out to pop off the wake.

What's the best way to tackle grabbing these rolls cause I really want to start grabbing them for more style?

Cameron, aproach like you would for a normal backroll (duh) and as soon as you pop off the wake suck your front knee up into your chest while taking your hand off the handle. you should think of it as bringing the board to your hand not your hand to the board. Grabbing with your front hand also has a tendency to bring it to a roll to revert, so keep the handle in close.

Hey, here's what helped me. The easiest place to grab a R2R (HS or TS) is between nose and method. It's the most natural movement for me anyways. Once i tried grabbing there, i could get it, whereas i could not reach method because of the same reason you described. Try to look at the spot you want to grab before you do so and do not flip your head until you see your hand getting close to the board. Anyways, the message i am trying to get across is that it's way easier to grab between nose and method, so try that.

For a Roll (NOT R2R), I take a harder cut at it and flatten off at the wake. If you get a good push off the wake it's pretty easy to flip it around. Try it off the double up it makes worlds easier. Check my profile pic. Method/nose all the way.
