Ok. So everytime I see someone doing a double up , I cant seem to understand how they time it. What I mean is , what are you supposed to look for so you can hit it just right. How do you do it?

i have trouble with the timing also, but its definatly not luck, and when you hit it right, you FLY! Heres a few tips:

Once the boat has turned and is heading for the oncoming rollers, you should be out from the wake, at about a 60 degree angle...dont cut out too far because you dont want to be hitting a double-up at a big angle and you prbly wont make it into the wake in time.

The second and third rollers are the sweetest to hit. Once you see the FIRST roller hit the very start of the wake (depending on your rope length) start cutting in like you would on a normal w2w jump.

Alright, this is where it gets tricky, and kinda hard to explain. Try hitting the 3rd roller to begin with. On your way into the wake, your going to be going up and down (over and under the first two rollers). There will be a certain rythem to it, it looks and feels really cool, and absorbing those first two rollers...Once you're at the BOTTOM of the second roller, knees are 3/4 bent, and from there it all depends on whether or not you timed it correctly. If you did, you will come down from the top of the 2nd roller, dip down, and pop straight up. If not, be careful because double-ups take down the rest of the wake to almost absouletly nothing, and thats when they get scary.

Best of luck, I hope that helped.....

You need to be cutting in slow, speed is not required for the D-up and most people never figure this out.

I start right at the wake when the boat is finishing the last part of the D-up turn and cutting back to the wake. At this point I cut out about the same distance I would for a normal HS backroll witch is less than what I do for a HS 3. The trick is to wait, wait till you start to see the rollers and you can clearly define the first D-up. Start to cut in as you are going over the first roller and look for the second D-up (this is the one you want to hit). At this point you should be right in the thick of it. No need for speed here just spot the second D-up and finish your approach.
It's all timing and once you start doing D-up at each time you turn around you will start hitting a few.

If you go too slow you will case the second wake and that hurts if you have any pop at all!

Happy D-up's

Basically i get out semi-wide & start drifting in. Get between the rollers & stay there, if you hold a good edge it will guide you right into the peak. I usually go for the 3rd roller cuz it's a tiny bit bigger but its also harder to get right as you have to get over the big 2nd. For toeside(which i just learned) I start out like 5 feet from the wake & get right into the trough of the rollers & ride all the way up on edge. Watch Danny Harf, he does it perfectly

boarder52002 You need to drive you D-up according to how you are hitting it. For a regular footer a HS is a D-up right, TS is a D-up left.

It would be extremely difficult to hit a D-up from an obtuse angle (outside) and would probably not give you the correct effect even if you hit it perfect.

You time it. It just takes practice. I usually start a slow cut towards the wake when the boat hits the second roller. After that you just watch for the D-UP you're going to hit and try to time it. I still don't get it perfect every time but you have to keep working at it or you'll never learn it.

boarder52002 try driving them at less than 90 degrees (75-85). I think it is much easier to hit a double up this way as the angle of the wakes provides a much smoother approach.

One word of advice: If you feel like you're getting bounced around by the rollers as you cut it, you're waiting too long to start your approach to the wake. If done correctly, the entire approach is very smooth. Oh, and I like mine at 90 degrees.
