Chevydude,

I don't know what kind of boat that is, but I think that is your speedo knob. It calibrates the spedometer. Next time you are out on the water, go about 25 MPH and move the knob up and down and see if the spedometer changes speeds. You can adjust it to match the speed on a GPS unit.

I tried to kill my wife once because I didn't know what that was. I tried to get the speed up for slaloming, but had to have it throttle wide open just to get to 30 MPH. It felt a little fast to me, but whatever. I also couldn't figure out why the boat couldn't go faster. This was my first time out. She crashed pretty bad, and it hurt.

Eventually I figured out the speedo control and realized that she was slaloming at 40 MPH or better! Embarassed

I'd imagine it's a remote gain control.

It does look like a gain control from a rockford amp...... If you are the second owner the first owner most likely had a system. But it has also been proven that I have been completly full of stuff sometimes.

I have the same boat. Talltigeguy is right. It's a speedo calibration knob for the analog speedometer.

You'll need a handheld GPS unit or another boat on a calm day to set the speedo since it looks like you don't have a digital speedo or Perfect Pass to calibrate it.

I have PP and I don't even look at the analog speedo anymore other than to compare readings..

That damn knob!!!! when I first got my older Centurion, i turned it up and down over and over to see what it did...couldn't figure it out for a couple months. Then one time i did it while i was driving, and DAMN!!! if it was ever calibrated correctly, it ain't no more! Never got around to using the GPS before selling it. If i remember right, there is about a +- 4mph movement in it at higher speeds.

Don't be a nerd. Calibrate your speedo with a stopwatch, not a GPS!

Just drive through a slalom course, and time what it takes to get between the entry and exit gates. You can probably find the correct (reglementary) times for different speeds on some waterski association webstite or something.

Worth doing, and beats any handheld GPS.

Willy,

1. not all of us have access to a slalom course.

2. your method forces the assumption that the slalom course has been properly set.

3. GPS is pretty darn accurate, and plenty so for most wakeboarder's purposes as it is not subject to problems such as river currents.

Now, if we were hardcore slalom people, I would whole-heartedly agree that your method is best. Cool

If it is not a paddle wheel then the speed is about as accurate as me sticking my finger in the wind. When I used my GPS to calibrate my speedo before I got PP, I would set it, then within a couple pulls it would be off again.

The PP paddle wheels seems to do a great job. It is within .1 after a 150 hours of use (~1 year).

are paddle wheels accurate? I know the Peeto pressure tubes are always clogging with debris.

Hey AndyDeeJay,

Yes, the paddle wheel is quite accurate -can be to .00 of a knot, used in racing sailboats all the time where .00 of a knot is quite important! The pressure tube thing is notoriously silly!
