I don't know how safe it is but I have an additional 1500 lbs on top of the stock ballast in my X-10. the warning on my boat says to not exceed like 1700 I think. So I go over all the time because the 1500 lbs. is in there no matter how many people decide to come and ride.

I dont know what the deal isin the the Us but in Aus if you carry over the manufactures recommended weight you can void your insurance policy. Sad generally speking we carry 2100lbs of lead and water plus people andhave had no problemsboat wise. Just drive accordingly and check your insurance. Hope this helps.

Our boat is a bayliner i/o rated for 1050 pounds or 7 peeps. We normally carry 2000 pounds of ballast with no probs. On the weekend we had 900 pounds of ballast in the front + 8 peeps in the back the wake was nice, I've got a pic somewhere I'll dig it out.

Ralph, Wake is really nice behind the lewis. You may not be able to tell form my profile pic but it is the v-drive eclipse released late last year. I have some photos on the way and will post some as soon as i remember to collect my camera. Wake is very clean out to about 80 feet with a more rounded shape as opposed to being lippy. They are little hard to weight well interms of distribution but it is worth playing around. even Weight up front tends to work well and firms te wake up a lot. rid behind one if you can. Very Happy

How will the insurance company know how much weight you are running in your boat?

We got a Cobalt 190 with the beefy V8 and I run two fat buddies in the back and a full 650 lb up front. With a lot of people and some chop, water comes over the front end if you hit them right. The only problem is when I put the fat buddies the whole way in the back (right on the sides of the engine) the boat never comes off plane? I have them on the sides of the pylon now (which is like a foot in front of the rear seats) and it doesn't make too much of a difference. What should I do?

Ralph, Here are some pics of our wake. Lewis Eclipse V With 1600lbs / 720kg on board. Rope legnth is 80 feet. We normally ride about 75-76 feet as the wake is a bit cleaner. We only had two people in the boat in these photos as well.

mkcarte2, It is only a problem if you wipeout or sink your boat and the insurance company recover it, We run lead so it would be hard hide the fact if we did sink our boat. It is just something that our dealer pointed out and is worth bearing in mind. Insurance companies may use it as an out and our policy has wording to the effect that the boat must be used with in the manufactures recommended guidlines otherwise policy may be voided. Samegoes when carrying people. You can get done for carrying more than the compliance plate states is allowed. Just a thought to bear in mind and my 2c worth.

This is with 1200lbs. One in the bow and one in the middle. Also 2 people in the boat. Water will break over th bow every once in a while, but not a big deal. Well worth it compared to unweighted wake.
