Ok, I edit mountain biking videos for a local bike shop's dirtjump team, and I'm good at it, but I suck at editing wake. I'm going to post a few videos with the same clips and ask for suggestions, but before I do, what techniques do people like to see?

usualy if you combine the latest linkin' park song, and cut every clip to the main beat of the song. everyone will love it.

oh add in some reverse motion for EXTRA sweetness.

Hahaha James, right on!

The only rules to editing is there are no rules! Start out by watching your favorite vid and instead of dwelling on the actual riding watch the editor's shot selection, try and pick up on his timing and then break it all down in your own head. Every viewer of any film, video will inherently know whether they like the piece or not, the difference between a pro and an amateur is the Pro can tell you why. As far as the creative part goes some people are way better naturally at it then others, some of us have to really work at it! Unfortunately it's unlikely there will ever be an ABC formula in spite of James' straight foreward approach!

the song can make or break the part. Linkin park = no no, off limits....so is Evanecance, etc...Also, when you make some of the clips go with the beat of the song (people landing when hard bass hits) its pretty cool and adds to the effect, but the key words are SOME CLIPS, not all of them unless its obvious that's what your doing, and maybe not even half of them, just some...
