Is this board just a repackaged Absolute from a few years ago?
It looks like it is. This would be funny, as the Sol is hyped as a "beginner" board, while the absolute, when it was new, was an "advanced" board. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

cameraboy, the Sol is a bit more forgiving than it's predecessor Absolute shape. It has a much smaller rocker, and IIRC has slightly deeper molded fins for easier tracking.
IMO - the Absolute shape over the years with the right center fin could be ridden comfortably by just about anyone. _________________

I have always had a problem with "beginner" and "advanced" boards.
I learned on a LF Helix, supposedly an "advanced" board that is not for beginners. THen I went on to a Harris. Another "advanced" board. I don't know, I think that to some extent, a board is a board and much of the hype is just marketing.
The SOL sure does look like the first incarnation of the Absolute, except it's 1/2 the price as the absolute was in 2001. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

cameraboy, it does appear that it is the first incarnate of the Absolute shape.
I agree with you on the marketing BS. Unfortunately, that is how many buy their boards, so the companies have to play to that segment. The common misconception in all boardsports is that if you use 'advanced' equipment you will ride better on said equipment.
Maybe it's true?! I am going to go buy an all Parks setup and let you know! _________________

| Yeah it's the same shape but has a much different flex pattern. It's not glassed as strong and won't have the same kick off the wake. That's why it's cheaper, cuz it's cheaper to make! Seriously go pick one up & give it the flex test. |
