Progressive edge, riding switch. Progressive edge is the foundation to wakeboarding, without it, you'll never get anywhere. _________________

I'm only new to wakeboarding also but from what I know a progressive edge is just gradually increasing the pressure while edging, slowly generating more speed. (correct me if I'm wrong) On the DVD waketrix it tells you to do the progressivge edge first away from the wake. Once you are comfortable with that, progressive edge towards the wake and straight thru it without getting air. Then practice getting air. Maybe a wakeboard training DVD will help you progress. I found waketrix very helpful but havn't seen any others to compare it to. _________________ Shout out 2 Muz... Will never 4get you mate... |

| hmmm. sounds good. From years of expiernce on skis, and a short summer on a wakeboard, i am pretty confident with my cutting hard and accelerating. You say that i should try to cut through the wake without any air? sounds good. When i am going for air, i know that you are trying to pop right at the end. Are ther any tips on begining to get some sufficeint air? |

to get good air you should stand tall when you reach the trough of the wake , if your knees are bend then they will absorb alot of your pop. try riding out about halfway into the flats and then cutting into the wake slowly with your legs straight to get the feel of it . youll be able to progress from there . _________________ "I just want something more than to come home in my cool looking SUV, sit in my king sized leather recliner and watch reality television on my widescreen plasma TV...How easy it is to care for someone when you dont have anything else..." |

Besides getting your body in shape (lots of core / balance training), the best thing really is experience and time on the board. Just get out on the water and don't take things too seriously, otherwise you'll get frustrated and not be able to focus on anything.
And the most important part, plenty of Advil, and an occasional Lortab. That's all you need to know.

i like this topic.
you can never get too much air.
i realize that because i ride behind a waverunner, i wont be able to get nearly as much air as i would off a boat, however, because of my skating background, im used to the ollie. while attempting to clear the wake, i try and ollie a bit at the peak, and always come up short. do you think if i dont ollie, and just "stand tall" i should be able to get more air/longer distance making it easier to go w2w?
i just wanna get some straight airs down first. and im thinking i might try getting up switch a couple times. i cant seem to do reverts very well while moving, those damn fins. haha. if i know i can ride switch, and clear the wake, i then might get the balls to try some 180's.
which brings me to another question. after reading quite a bit, im getting the inpression that to spin more, or just easier, you want to kinda pull on the handle, to kinda start your spin. you know, say you were going for a ts f/s 180 (regular footed) you would kinda pull the rope with your right hand as you let go with the left....understand what im trying to say? it makes sense to me, as a windup (snowboard/skate) style doesnt seem to work well on a wakeboard. i dont have access to a tramp to practice or anything, so thats a moot point.
TIA |

do not ollie. it isn't necessary. just stand tall. i too ride behind a waverunner. well, it's a seadoo, but same thing. and yes to spin you want to rely completely on the pulling of he handle........ right? _________________

awesome. yeah, and i assume you still have to lead with your head. haha. thats always the #1 rule in spinning is that your body follows the head. or something like that.
i cant wait to get out there and try some of these techniques ive been mulling over. chomping at the bit. |

wakerider07, dude u really don't have to pull hard at all for a 180... at all. The boat will pretty much pull you if u just give it a tug and put it by your hip. _________________

If you can ride regular, butterslide and then place the handle on your other hip and start riding switch on the water then you are definately ready to try single wake 180s. After you pop wait a second and then pull the handle to your other hip. The action of moving the handle will bring your shoulders and the board around with you. Lock the handle down to your other hip, land and ride away.
Dont be too eager to throw the 180 right away, wait untill you have left the wake. Make sure you get the handle to the other hip and lock it there. Even if you are poor at riding switch (like me) good body position upon landing will give you enough time to set yourself back up in your normal position. Oh and as you land resist the urge to place the handle back on your normal hip. It sound silly but your body is used to landing in a certain way (ie, handle on right hip if right foot forward) and you might find yourself trying to pull the handle back to that hip when you land it will cause you to bottom out. |
