so this boat store had a huge ass sale, and made a few phone calls to some reps. hype, oneill, newt juice and malibu all had people there (that i saw, at least). on top of that brian grubb in all his living glory was there. they also had a band play.

they built a rail outside in their drainage ditch alongside interstate 101, and had a Rewind winch on hand for the occassion.

i have to say that i have a newfound respect for grubb. not only was he the ONLY guy to always take his own handle back to the starting area, but he would jog it back whenever possible. seriously cool. some of the guys would just hand the handle off to someone else to walk it back for them.

click this link to look at some of the pics.

Great pictures. how do you like the 100-400? I still haven't made up my mind if I want to go with that lens or the 70-200 2.8L IS and later get the 1.4x entender.

He loved it, he got to shoot from San Jose Smile

Seriously though, I have a 100-400 too and it's a great lens - highly recommended. Although for this shoot I took off the 70-200 and used a 28-75 most of the day (and this was on a 1.3X crop camera) You could get real close so a tele wasn't really needed. Here's David, Sean and Scott distracting traffic and almost causing a pile-up!

the lense was actually very amazing. unfortunately even with as comfortable as i am hand-holding cameras, i would have liked a tripod. quite a few of my sequences got ruined because the camera dipped down and focused on the slider instead of the rider. oh well. its one of those things that comes with experience i guess. i was happy just to have as many decent pictures as i a got.

but yeah, i stood at one end of the ditch and shot at the riders all the way at the other end. needless to say i didnt have anyone getting in my shot Laughing
