Man, I just found out that I am getting laid off. Friday is my last day. A whole 2 days notice is great. I hope the economy picks up soon, I can't afford to be out of work long. I have a couple of possibilities lined up already, but we'll see if they actually pan out. Ok, just venting a little I guess. _________________ "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." - Benjamin Franklin

Thanks guys. I currently do IT support. It is a tough job market around here, so I might wind up relocating. If I have to relocate, I hope it is somewhere that has a longer boarding season _________________ "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." - Benjamin Franklin

yeah, I actually saw a guy on the side of the road this summer with a sign: "I'm C certifed, Unix and Lynix certifed and out of a job. Have resumes, please take one and pass on to any IT department you know of". He was serious too. Our company does tech marketing and we lost some clients about this time last year, hopefully things will continue for us. Good luck on getting a new job. _________________ "What do you mean you're done for the night...Insomnia doesn't even open until 4. Get your $*** together Billy, cause the night ain't over!"

A IT Support guy I worked with just got the axe, our mgt said it was 'budgetary'- our CIO came to them and said they had to let a few Admins go. We think he got singled out b/c he made the most $$, now how crooked is that??
But yeah good luck, Keep networking and spreading the word and eventually something worthwhile will come your way.
And don't count out the Porn industry! They work hard and get beer after work just like the rest of us. |

Mad Dog,
I completely understand your predicament. I was working a biotech company in Northern California & got laid off 'cuz they spent money unwisely. I recently moved to San Diego & got hooked up with a pharmaceutical company down here. The drug we've been working on for the past 3 years didn't do as well as we hoped so I might get laid off from this job too, I'll find out next week.
Something will come up I'm sure, but if you're willing to move that will DEFINITELY improve your chances of getting a job. My suggestion is to maybe take a leap of faith, that's what I did by moving down here & it's been a positive experience for me so far.
I don't say this to rub it in, but to offer you hope: I moved down here with hopes of getting a forensics position. It didn't pan out so I hooked up with this pharmaceutical company. Today I got a letter telling me about a vacancy in the forensics unit. Higher power at work I tell ya! |

well, luckily I am way ahead in boat payments so I don't have to worry about that for a long time, but the mortgage(s) are gonna be tough. Unemployment will help, but I think i'll be taking some side jobs. Ah, back to my old constuction days. That is unless I find something quick. _________________ "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." - Benjamin Franklin

You should be able to qualify for unemployment. I know a guy who got fired and was on unemployment for, well he still is for about 8 months now. He applys for 2 jobs a week that he knows he will never get. I'm not supporting this or suggesting playing the system, but do what works for you. Good luck! _________________

Mad Dog. I work for a Very Large company and we are always hiring. I think you would have a choice of 14-18 different states.. Mostly west coast and mountain. If you are looking at relocating shoot me an e-mail and I can give you some more info and even get your Resume to the right people. _________________ "The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed."

MadDog-Just so you don't feel like you're alone. (not that you really thought you were) They gave you 2 days notice? That's kind of surprising. I was laid off a couple months ago and they didn't give me (or the two people who were let go with me) any notice whatsoever. We just showed up one morning and they called us down to the HR area and told us to pack up and get out. If it makes you feel any better, since I've been laid off I've also been in two car accidents. The first accident totalled the car I had. Naturally I didn't have any collision coverage on it so I didn't get any money for it. (I'm smart like that) So I went out and bought a 2001 Ford Ranger XLT Supercab. It was absolutely beautiful until about a day ago when I was in another accident. So I've had an absoutely beautiful start to the year 2003. It's funny you mentioned falling back on construction for a job because that's kind of what I'm doing. I'm currently working at an apartment complex doing apartment turnovers and maintenance calls. I'm telling you if I have to snake one more drain or pull apart one more garbage disposal because because some numbnut dropped a bottle cap down it I'm going to loose it.
So I hope that in some way made you feel better about your current situation. If it hadn't occured to you already, it's approaching that time of year when you'll be getting your tax refund. I'm defanitely looking forward to mine. It should help. I'm just happy I'm not living in Iraq or Afghanistan. God bless our troops who are over there for us. _________________ How do you apologize to a friend for something like that? Flowers would not be enough. |

Dave, Thanks for cheering me up I hope the rest of the year gets better for you, and I hope there are less numbnuts dropping bottle caps down the drain. That really sucks about the cars. I hope you wern't hurt in either accident.
You are absolutely right.. I am happ to be here instead of in Iraq, or any onther country for that matter. _________________ "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." - Benjamin Franklin

Where in upstate NY are you MadDog? Don't worry, no serious injusries in either accident. The one with the truck wasn't that bad at all. I just feel bad for my poor truck. Figures that I get a vehicle that I actually think is kind of cool for the first time in my life and I immediately proceed to screw it up. The Accident with the first car was worse. I made the front page of the B section of the local newspaper for the town it happened in. The cover picture was of the firemen using the jaws of life to rip apart my car to get me out. I ended up with a concussion and some stitches in my head. I'm just glad I was the one who got hurt. As weird as that may sound. Since I was driving, if any of the other people in the car (my girlfriend and one of her friends) had been hurt I would have felt terrible. I'm not sure what I would have done. Luckily the impact was nicely centered on my door and nobody else was hurt at all. _________________ How do you apologize to a friend for something like that? Flowers would not be enough. |

Leggester, I work for a Large communications company and asking about a singular data base, I have no idea, but we are talking about Fiber, Dial tone, Long Distance, Print (Yellow pages, and direct marketing), DSL, OC128, Cellular, Web Products, etc.. I'm sure that we have something for any skill set. _________________ "The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed."

Dave, I am near Albany. It does suck to wreck your vehicle when you actually care about it. I've had a couple of cars that I thought were cool wrecked. And I know what you mean about being glad you were the only one hurt. I got t-boned once driving my aunts car with her in the passenger seat. I got messed up a bit, but she was ok. i was really glad that I was driving instead of her, cause she would of wound up in worse shape than I did. _________________ "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." - Benjamin Franklin
