i just started wakeboarding last summer, but ive been skating and snowboarding for almost 7 years now, so i picked it up pretty quick. only problem is, we dont have a boat. we have a waverunner. dont get me wrong, it works, and its fun, and when were done we can mess around, but it makes learning airs, and such very difficult.

anyone ever had the experience of wakeboarding behind a waverunner? know any ways to get a better wake or anything?

ive only ridden behind a boat once, and absolutely loved it, but they are very expensive. and well, thats out of the question for now. though i must say the difference in wakes was a little startling. so yeah....any tips?

you can get a little bit of a better wake if as you are cutting in to jump, have the driver turn. So if you were cuttung in tho the wake < that way, have the driver turn < that way a little. Just experiment with this and you might end up with a better wake

Ian_82, my advise if you got a waverunner drag out your old skate shoes and get a wake skate, you wont be as limited, and you can take advantage of some of that skating experience, or get into doing rails and kickers, b/c wave runners suck for wakeboarding

P.S. if your getting a wakeksate get these vids (Sfumato and Snap) one will teach you and one will amaze you, and if you need any help or info go to www.Wakeskating.com, or the wakeskating forum here lots of knowledgable helpful people

you could try to hook up with a crew in your area and just pay for gas and babes. Then you're set!

You shoud try wakeskating, You would probably really like it and all you need for wakeskating is a Waverunner or a Zodiac.

thanx guys. i appreciate the "help" ive been curious about wakeskating, but looks a little harder than boarding. i have a friend whos dad owns a shop in town who sells boats, and wakeboarding equip and all that jazz, but hes always working, and doesnt call when he takes a boat out. kindof "left out" of the loop i guess.

for now the waverunner works fine, we have adjusted the rope to try and match it where the wake is best, but thats not saying much. im just happy being able to ride, and be out on the water. we have a short season up here (the northwest) but my buddy just bought a bunch of wetsuits for whitewater rafting, so were gonna use those to get more ride time in.

another thing, when i ride i tend to start cramping in my hands, and my back starts killing me, am i doing something wrong? i seem to have the same problem snowboarding, at least in my ankles. im not in the best shape in the world, but after about 5 minutes or so, i have to let the rope go, cause my back starts aching.

Post a pic or video of your riding, you may have bad riding position, for just carving around, you should be standing pretty straight. For more tips on tricks from the basics to professional, buy an instructional video like Higher Education or wake tricks. It will help you soooo much.

Yeah when I first started my lower back would kill me after afew minutes. Its just one of those areas that isn't targeted much until you start wakeboarding. You'll be fine after about a month.

not sure about your hands though... get a better/newer/different griped handle?

its more from being on one edge too much. like a burning on the outside of the ankle, its hard to explain. i have crap for ankles, after spraining them so many times skateboarding.

I've been riding behind a SeaDoo for quite a while and have gotten pretty good at wakeboarding.

Ian_82, wish I'd have known you were around years ago. I'm from across the river in Rainier. My buddy moores his boat at the marina there and we go out probalby 4-5 times a week during the summer. Of course, that was a few years ago. We're both in college now, he in Ashland, and I in Portland. However, we still try to get together at least every weekend over the summer when he's home and I commute from Portland. We're always looking for a 3rd and with gas prices the way they are, it's always nice to have someone else to help out. Wink

So, if you're interested, PM you're contact info and maybe we can work something out this summer.

Along these small water vessel lines....I got a 14 ft jon boat with a 7.5 hp outboard. I dont know the power to weight exactly but its something like 26 lbs/hp. My dad doesnt think it will pull a wakeboarder and doesnt want to stress the engine getting me out of the water. How much power do you think I need on my boat to pull wakeboarders? I would hope 7.5-9.9 would do it because there is a perfect 10 and under HP lake just like 5 miles away that would be fun as crap to session.
