Ok, so now that I have been a true lurker here on the boards its time I post.
I got my first boat, nothing special but I think it will do the job.
19 Bayliner 1950 capri with the 5.0 merc. Should pull my girl, bro, and me just fine. From what I have read so far it looks like the monster tower could be a good fit or a Boss Slider to save a bit of coin and get up and out of the water faster and highter.
Now for a board for me, I have road a few times but still a beginer so looking at a Hyperlite Motive 140 (6'3" 195lbs) but Bindings/boots I am unsure about. I have found one of last years with H.O. Montra or was it the mantra? The guy at the shop said they are great bindings but I wanted to ask you all. What do you think? The only other bindings I see packaged with the motive are the Spin and no one seems to like them at all. Any other options for the price point and also stablitly?
For the lady I was thinking the Divine (5'3" 105-115-dont ask) The guy at the shop said I could just save some bucks and get a 132 Motive because the Divine is the same board diffrent grafix? Truth in that?
Last few questions is on handles, rope/line, & jackets. What should I pick up and why? Trying to stay inexpensive if you know what I'm saying.
Thanks for your time.

Yes, the divine and motive are the same board, but they should cost the same anyways, they have the same MSRP.
The motive is a great board. I rode it in a 144, a lil too big for my size, but it was a nice ride, easy to pop, and tracked just right, not too tight not too loose. You can't go wrong with it.
I have never tried the spins, but my feelings are the same as yours for them. I have never heard of the montra, but in general H.O. is a sportmart brand (if you know what I mean), but would be inexpensive if thats what you're looking for.
For ropes, get something that is non-strech. If it say spectra, you're good. Don't settle for "low strech".
For a handle, I would recommend any LF handle. I wouldn't recommend carbon handles, I don't like the grip on them.
For jackets, anything USCG approved and more preferably neoprene would be best. Stay safe, always use a USCG approved.
As a side note, if you're looking for inexpensive, I would stay away from hyperlite. they are by far the most expensive company. |
