|
|
Hey I live on the water, near the beach in N. FL and I was wanted to ask 2 questions.
1: Where I live the tide goes up and down about 6 feet, so what would be the best way to ancor the the slider?
We have plenty of sandbars to put piling into, but cause the tide goes up and down 6 feet I would have to figure out how to hook it up to float, and move up and down with the tide.
I thought about it being a floater, but the place I would put it is only about 100 ft from the dock, and I'd have to figure out a way to hold it in place at different tide levels.
2: What materials should I use in the salt water?
Would regular treated 2x4s hold up good in the salt water, or will I have to get a special kind of material?
Thanks,

FASTnSPEEDY, floating slider on 2 logs. Get one of thos huge logging chains for each end of the rail, and put the anchors on the end of them, then a normal chain from the logging chain to the rail. A 6ft logging chain will keep your rail striaght by dragging to the bottom when the tide is low and getting pulled up little by little when the tide comes up.
Regular 2x4's work fine. they wont rot for a long time. |

| well if you drop weights straight down it isn't going to do jack. i'm not sure exactly how i'd do it for a slider cuz i don't know the situation, definately has to be a floating one and maybe like 4 anchors one in each corner, do like 8:1 or 10:1 scope of chain so it falls really fast and then runs along the bottom for a while, make sure your anchors are big enough and it won't be going anywhere even through a hurricane. how deep is the water? |

I could put the slider in water from 0-20 feet, so I have a lot of choice on how deep of water to put the slider in.
I have an idea for a slider and I'll post pics of it later to see what you guys think.

Here is my idea, a post in the water, with a sleeve around the post so that the slider can remain anchored in the ground, but still be able to float up and down.
(Note: I just showed the basic idea of how the slider would work, I didn't show the sides, floats, etc. because that would make it hard to see how it worked.) _________________ Graphic Composites for only $39, how good does it get! GraphicXpert.com

No responses?
Do you guys think anchoring the slider using the logging chain, or using the plan I have above would be better?
I'm not really concerned with which option is cheaper as I can get most all of my materials for free.

FASTnSPEEDY, If you did that you would have to put alot of floatation in the top part of the slider. _________________ www.Crawlinbc.com |

I don't understand what you mean.
Do you mean that the metal sleeves would add alot of weight which would require more floatation? _________________ Graphic Composites for only $39, how good does it get! GraphicXpert.com
