1 cwb sol 135 with mobe bindings

2 liquid froce Evo. 138 w/element bindings

3 04 hyperlite motive 140 w/ spin bindings

4 05 hyp. motive 140 w/ split bindings

I just bought an '04 motive, same setup. I read some good things on it. I'm a bit bigger than you are though. I've been told bigger boards will help you learn better, but i figure I will just beat myself up until I learn, then the board will be perfect for doing spins and tricks Smile

They might say the 140 is too big for you...but I honestly am not sure Smile

jwm08, I would stay in the 135-138 range given your weight.

I would recommend tossing a few mentionables in there like the CWB Pure, Tattoo, and Flame, HL Era, LF Balance. These are off the top of my head, and will last you longer as they will still provide a good ride for many years as they won't leave you wanting more when you do get better.

I learned on a motive 144 with split bindings and really have no complaints about the board. It's a solid board to start on and it will last for a couple of years before you are ready to upgrade.

Thanks for the help eveyone. So would it be worth the money to buy a little more expensive board for my first one? Something like the hyperlite state package? I read some good things about it and I like the looks. Let me know what you think.

jwm08, I wouldn't touch the 'crutch'... err... I mean State.

Stick with the mellower boards similar to the ones I mentioned and you will be happy now, and later.

How does that new state board ride? I doubt i'd ever consider buying one, but the whole toeside/heelside edge thing sounded interesting. anyone ridden it?

I would recommend you should demo a few boards....I had a 2004 motive when I first started........the 2005 motive is pretty much the same board as the 2004 so i wouldn't spend more $ for a 2005......the motive is a good beginning board, not bad pop at all for a continuous rocker and it has a smooth stable ride.....but i hated my split bindings so i wouldn't reccommend them , they were uncomfortable.....hope this helps
