I have an 04 VLX and it came with a Kicker 10? square sub under the glovebox and I am replacing it with a JL 13w7. I know that the JL will pound WAY harder than the Kicker and I was watching the dash move a little when the bass hit with the Kicker. I am worried about damaging the boat or making stuff loose on the boat with the added bass.
Should I be concerned?

April fools already. You really think the pounding from the subwoofer is worse than the beating from chop on a lake? I don't think Elmers Glue-All is a construction ingredient used on a VLX.

Mine rattled a lot of screws loose. It wasnt that big of a deal to fix....
I took all of the screws out of my dash and put a very small amount of silicon on them. Screwed them back in and that fixed the problem.

The silicon is easy to remove if you need to access the dash.

nashvillematt may have a point, the resonant frequencies of a sub will far easier rattle screws loose than the jarring and non-unified vibrations the boat gets on the water. Just don't strip the screws on that beautiful VLX. Smile

I didn't think it'd be too much of an issue. I'll just check screws and stuff every now and then. Thanks for the help! Very Happy

A kicker solobaric L7 will produce alot more bass than a JL 13w7 with the right power.

what power would this be?
Confused

depending how your boat is constructed and how much bass you have can have alot to do with shaking your boat to death LOL.
I have seen video of SPL car's that have broken the door's from so much bass. I know your not going to be pushing that much but the concept is some what the same. I would say your not going to dammage your boat just loosen things up a bit.

A good ICE installation doesn't stop at installing amps and drive units. There is nearly as much effort stopping random unwanted shakes rattles and vibrations. I'd go with the silicon approach or use nut lock compound on your screws.

I'd hate to be your driver for a weekend Crazy Eyes

my diamond m6 actually rattled our horn loose, and i have pretty high doubts that it hits as hard as a 13w7, what amp are you planning to use for that w7?

I think the neccesary power would be a small nuclear reactor. I'm bidding on one on E-bay right now. Twisted Evil

dont waste you money on the JL audio subs. Go check out the Brahma www.adireaudio.com or the RE XXX or MT www.reaudio.com

The brahma and the XXX will both compare to the W7 in sound quality and loud as they are both sql speakers while the RE MT will just blow you away with how loud it can get, but its not the best sounding speaker.

I don't know your set up but I've got A W-6v2 under the drivers dash
and one under the observers dash on my 04 VLX, the drivers side has way better sound.
If you haven't tried it there you should, but I'm sure the W-7 will sound good almost any where.

I also used foam fill under the dash to keep vibration down, the dash
will vibrate at least an inch at party volumes.
