i am looking at a netgear WGR614 and WGT624 and was wondering if those two were good routers to use. i mainly want to use the wireless adapter for my xbox, which i may buy the wireless gaming adapter instead so i don't have to run a new wire through the basement over by the television. comments would be appreciated, i am not to smart on routers or wireless stuff, but my dad would probably get someone we know to help us set it up. what i would need to know is how to set up and configure everything from my xbox to the router. that is probably the only thing wireless we would need since we have cables running to all of the other computers. thanks a lot. sorry if any of that was confusing, i was going back to parts and puttin in new words and didn't really revise it Wink

I'd personally never buy anything from netgear again. I've only had repeated bad experiences with any product I've bought from them. I find Linksys is much more reliable and doesn't cost too much more.

my dad seems to like netgear and we don't have any trouble with our router. of course, we bought the most expensive router they have. it sucks because it doesn't work with xbox live and thats why i am asking about the wireless so i can play on live, but yet it would be easier with wireless so then we don't have to run a new cable to my xbox.

I use a wireless linksys router and it works great. I have 5 computers networked together wirelessly with the router and my xbox connects to xbox live with the wireless gaming adapter in the game room. With our router you can also have 4 xbox's connected wirelessly or directly to the router and play multiplayer via LAN.

I used to think that Netgear was crap compared to Linksys. However, I had a two year old Linksys router and a 1 year old Linksys Wireless Access Point. My Access point stopped working, then my wired router started dropping 20% of its packets, so i bought a netgear and have had no problems.

BUT, I used to be a small business tech. consultant and we put linksys wireless/wired routers in for very small business and have have fair luck with them. Granted when you have 20+ installed, some will see problems, but most of them run with little or no problems.

The most common problem I have seen with a Linksys router is that it will lock up occasionally and you will need to cycle the power.

I have one year old d-link 624. It worked fine untill recently, now it will randomly disconnect and you have to reset it.

i've also had problems with a linksys bsf41 or something like that. but i think it goes for both netgear and linksys. Right now i have a central linksys router with 2 netgear 8 port hubs. The set up works nice so i can keep my dads work seperate from my crazy net surfing.
