I know this has been done but would just like to get an actual poll. After you vote please if you can give a brief explanation why and what you do with it. (work, play, hobby, ect.) Please no fighting about why your choice is better than someone elses. just keep it to positive info about the program you use. I'm writing a comparison paper for school and this is part of my research.
Thanks

Final Cut Pro. I have a mac, so it's the obvious choice, but it's also got so many damn features, so powerful and just makes sense to me. I'm a student and I use it to create short films, wakeboard films and any projects for Uni.

I've been a big Vegas user for the past 7 or 8 years... I started using it for audio then started exploring the video features.

Once you learn their workflow, hands down it beats Premier...

If I had a mac, I'd use Final Cut pro... but I can't justify buying a mac just for FCP.

Vegas used to be owned by Sonic Foundry... but now they're owned by Sony.

The makers of Vegas also make Acid (the looping tool for dubbing your own beats)..

Avid might be interesting to try some day as well... you can download a free version... I'm just really used to Vegas now, so it's hard to get me to switch gears from something I know very well.

The url for free avid:

I use FCP on my G5 and i love the workflow and features of the program. I probably onlu use 10% of the capabilities of the program, but its nice to know that I've got room to grow. Another big bonus is that lots of indie film people use it so when I help them out, I can sit down @ their machine and start working, no need to learn a new program.

I mainly use premier pro, simply because the only other thing i have used is windows movie maker. I like permier basically because its nice a simple to use, has some cool filters, and a lot more things. I also like how i can export the movie as a gif and compress it and things like that.

We use premier as well, since its low cost, and fairly easy to use. I would love to get a G5 to use FCP, but as jvanick and jumalian stated before, I cant justify spending that much money just for editing.

If you're just editing DV you can use Final Cut Express with one of the new Mac Minis along with any DVI monitor and USB mouse/keyboard. You will still get most of the commonly used effects with real time playback. They even put a DVD burner in the upgraded models.

Call me a prestigous art fag but i think if you want to get serious about video, FCP is worth buying an apple for. I used FCP for EVERYTHING and it is amazing. Final Cut Express is pretty much the exact same thing unless you're gonna do some non-dv (dv25) stuff.

FCP 5/QT7 is rumored to be out in April (NAB 2005) and from what i've heard, will blow FCP 4/QT6 out of the water.

At work, i'm blessed with a G5, FCP, and 4 Gigs of RAM, and it's awesome, but id love even a MAC mini with Final Cut Express.

I'm avid certified, and appreciate the program, but FCP is much easier to use, and can do the exact same things.

I also used Premiere Pro for about 3 years and hated every moment of it. Multiple multiple multiple crashes and no good compressors.

If you are still anti-apple - watch this: http://www.apple.com/macosx/tiger/quicktime.html
