I went downtown yesterday to take pictures of the anti-war protest that occurred in Portland. I've never seen so many idiots in my life. I seriously wanted to hurt them. They were attacking Bush, calling for anarchy, and burning American flags.

Later I visited the pro-war rally. It was a lot smaller group. When I talked to a friend later about why no one showed up for the pro-war rally, his quote was classic. "None of the supporters for the war went to the rally because we all have jobs. How many people can spend the whole day protesting on a Thursday afternoon. Only hippies with nothing to do. The supporters of the war are the ones who hold this country together."

Heres a few of the pics that I took at the anti-war protest. Forgive the graininess (is that a word?) of the pictures. Most of them were taken at night and had to be lightened in photoshop. I added comments to each of the pictures to explain what is happening.

This is TOO true. I grew up in San Jose & I would surf in Santa Cruz & both my older sisters live in San Francisco. I could never escape the dirts!

Heres some of the pro-war rally. The officers in riot gear were there to keep the anti-war protest from clashing with the pro-war protest.

wow thats a highly intellectual statement there andy.

whats wrong with protesting against war? why are they not allowed to voice their opinions? they're allowed to say exactly the same thing as you if they want. because it is an opinion and people are allowed to let their opinion be heard. thats not saying its right or wrong, and some of them take it a bit too far.

I think this soldier has it right! I would also like to think that he means the people not supporting him.

Nick I never said anything was wrong with protesting war. Although I do think it is wrong to burn our flag and I consider people who do burn our flag to be anti-American.

Protesting is one thing, but the American flag is the symbol of our country. When you burn that, you are making a statement about America itself. It made me sick to my stomach to watch them deface our national flag. I wanted to take the pole that the flag was on and beat them with it.

oh sorry fellas i worded that the wrong way, it was just the statement that People who burn flags are anti American i found to be like.... stating the obvious. of course people burning american flags will be anti american. i seriously believe that it is entirely wrong and if they were burning an aussie flag i'd feel the same way.
it was just dr. obvious' statement that got me. no offence intended fellas
