I'm a Junior in high school right now and I don't get bad grades (My GPA is like a 3. . One reason I try hard and don't get bad grades is because my parents will freak out and ground me off the computer for ever and they will also take away my car which means I have to ride the bus and I don't like riding the bus. |

| I've never been in this situation, but if I was, I would probably lose my car first, and then probably TV and video games and maybe some other stuff. I don't think they would take away wakeboarding though. |

| this may sound dumb but i didnt get bad grades in high school. i just didnt want to disappoint my parents. i doubt if i would have ever gotten any kind of punishment but i would have felt like i was wasting my time and their money if i wasn't trying hard enough in school. |

| w$r the way around this for me at least, is to take elective classes that are easy and will help raise your gpa. I have a C in english and in math, but because i have A's in woods and electronics, my average is still a B. Tell them the quater grade, semister grade isnt what matters, it is your average, because most likely the class you are doing bad in wont have a big role in your future plans, and they should be more worried that you have a good average and gpa so you can get into college. ( note the run on sentence, one of the many examples on why i suck at english) |

dude, get a tutor and get your grades up, its important to your parents, more important than you boarding, one day you will understand, as a parent I would do the same thing, in order to get results...... grounding doesn't work, and its too much work for the parents, so parents take away the one thing that is extremely important to the kiddo, I don't mean this like an @ss, but welcome to the real world, there are consequences for everything.....if you fail at your job, you have no money, well you are obviously not gonna be boarding unless you are a bum and have friends to foot your bill.....
If I had to work 2 jobs in order to keep wakeboarding, I would, so get to work! Give it a little more effort and you'll see the results |

| i have always been a honor student and pretty smart. My parents grounded me and gave me a speech about how i could do so much better when one of my averages got down to a low B. On the practice ACT I took I got a perfect score on the math part and I am only a sophmore. |

i've never really had that problem, in that sense for some reason i think i'm really lucky, a lot of other ppl have had to work their arses off to get the same grades as me, but for me it seems to come a lot easier than it does for them. thats not saying i dont try and i dont put the work in. but its just easier for me to learn and understand it for some reason. so dude, you dont have much longer left, i dont know how many years exactly, but just think that this is shaping the rest of your friggin life, i dont think 4 or 5 years of hard work will matter when you get 'the job' that pays for your (substiture wakeboard boat of choice in here) _________________ professional procrastinator |

Yea my mom gets upset when i get anything lower than a A, but to me, its important to get good grades. I've seen what hard work can get for you in my Mom and Dad, and i've seen, what not putting effort in can get for you in my aunts and uncles. You think this stuff doesn't matter. When your the school janitor and your workin as hard as you can just to support your family, your gonna wish you had worked harder _________________ ow thats gonna hurt tomorrow

I'm not in high-school anymore (I graduated at 15) but, what I notice is, if you appear to not be paying attention in class, or something like that, the teacher wont be so eager to give you a good grade, no matter what you get on tests. Its like if your boarder-line of a grade they my put you in the lower one, just because you don't respect them. So the trick is to appear as though you respect them, but if you allready have a bad report with the teacher, you'll have to work alot harder at this. I don't know in your case, but teachers notice the small things. You have to put the idea in there head that your good. But doing more studying never hurt anyone.
but I feel bad for you, if I had wakeboarding taken away, my grade would only get worse not better. _________________ ODPC |

W$R AZ style- Work out a deal with the rents. Start getting weekly progress reports from the math teacher. Get you parents to agree that if you are improving weekly they will allow you to continue riding for the next week. Set a goal grade wise and work towards that goal. As long as you are making progress your parents allow you to ride.
There's always a comprimise. If you set up the terms it shows responsibility and your parents should agree to it. _________________ If I agreed with you we would both be wrong. |

I am old but I've been working around adolescents for along time. The one thing that hasn't changed is attitude and discpline. Many feel that they don't need to "learn this stupid stuff' because it won't apply in to the future. It maybe true to some extent. Just play the game & show some interest, and you'll get by with average grades. Then when you get out into the real world and get that slave driving job then you'll wish you really did work harder at your grades.
Just a little insight from all the people who give me grief and BMC about my profession. |

"Problems like this"? Seems the sentiment here is to quit whining and start working. You got yourself into the mess, now apply yourself and get yourself out of it.
It's awfully hard to afford a car when you have to ask: "Would you like fries with that order?"
You should work on English also - or is that an 'F' too? |

I dont know why but i feel i dont really pay attention and am not motivated enough. it kinda makes me sivk. Like all of a sudden in the middle of the year i gte fed up and either dont hand shizzle in or do like crappy on it. Any ideas on what i can do ? My parents think that it is beacause i have no clue what i really want to do in life, or that i havent found my self . I dunno _________________ Ontario Rider

Sean, and AZ. You have to buckle down and do the job. Period. You think work is fun? After 25+ years, any job is boring. Yet, you're yakking about a semester or two?
Guys, really, the only person that's gonna do it is yourselves. Suck it Up! Do the job!
If you don't want to work behind the counter at MickeyDs the rest of your life, get to work! That should be motivation enough for any one. |

| kim - no offense to you or your parents but if i had an attitude like that toward school my dad would have torn me a new one. but i guess you could blame your parents for having the mindset that you do. some people called it child abuse, my dad called it motivation. |

I don't remember my parents ever making threats about grades. It was just understood that school was a priority and that grades were highly valued in my family.
Kim- please ditch that avitar. I can't stand Famous Stars and Straps. It's based in Riverside, Ca where I currently live. To see people representing a belt and buckle company is just odd to me. It truly doesn't make any sense. _________________ If I agreed with you we would both be wrong. |
