What's up? I'm at work trying to avoid being productive and thought I'd start a new thread about some of the boat manufacturers and what they used to be.

For example, MB's are made by Mike Brendell who used to make Ski Brendella. According a dealer I spoke with yesterday, some company stakeholder wanted Mike to start using cheaper parts in Ski Brendella and he didn't want to so he got out and started MB Sports.

And the guy also said that what was Ski Brendella is now Calabria. Is that true?

Any other background on other boat companies that might be of interest?

Is it true that Mark Overbye started Moomba before SC bought them.

Yes, Moomba was started by Mark Overbye then he left and started Gekko, it's in the last water ski magazine boat review magazine, he also used to work at Mastercraft before he started Moomba.

FWIW,

Moomba began when Supra Sports and a manf of in Austrialia traded molds. Those molds were later named Moomba. And they produced one model named a Boomerang. Mark O. worked at Supra Sports at the time and I believe worked almost exclusively on Moomba. Mark did not work a MasterCraft from 85 to 95 and I am pretty sure never has. Supra is the original founder of Moomba.

The story I heard was the two merged after Supra file for bankruptsy back in 96 or something. Is that how the skiiers choice name was formed? Clarify if I got that wrong.

Bambamski

SC was formed when the managers at then United Marine purchased the company in 99. United Marine had operated Supra and Moomba starting in 95. Moomba became a part of the Supra package back in the late 80's.

I thought Supra filed for protection in the mid 90's? If not I must be thinking of someone else?

RickTinker, Was Moomba originally owned by Lewis boats? I thought that was who it was bought off?

Bamb,

The parent company of Supra, did file in very early 90's . Which did effect Supra and other companies under it's umbrella. The company has been under the current management group for the last 10 years.

Brit,

Lewis boats was the original company that Supra swapped tooling with. It was called a Lewis in Aust.. It was named a Moomba in the states..by Supra. So Moomba never really existed in Aust till much later, after the name was established in the US. Hope that helps.
