i'll be in the market for a used car this summer and am looking to get something like a 4-runner but it'll be a little out of my price range so i'm looking at montero sports. i was just wondering if any of you have had one and if so how did you like them. i've heard mixed things about their quality.

I have a 99 Montero Sport & it's been nothing but good to me. I've dropped some coin into it but nothing outta the ordinary.

The one thing I will advise you about is the heavy cost of gas. I knew gas was gonna hurt me, but my Sport has a 20 gallon tank which I hafta fill once a week minimum. With gas prices the way they are now I'm dropping $35 to fill the tank, OUCH!

maybe this is my opinion becuase i used to sell toyota's, but, you can't even compare a montero to a 4runner. when someone would pull into the dealership with a montero, we would run and hide because they were always upside-down and they weren't worth anything as a trade-in.
plus, one of my good friends bought one because his wife always wanted one, they both hate it now, rides rough, always breaking down, and sucks off road.
go with the 4runner. Laughing

I just paid $86 to fill the tank in my truck....though it is an Excursion with a 44 gallon tank and I live in California.

My good friend had a 99 Montero Sport for a few years. He loved it, and I didn't hear of any trouble he had with it. I had a 99 4Runner at the same time. Both were very reliable. The Montero seemed kind of light and it felt like it would roll more easily, though. Give it a test drive...
