We had a rinker 03 212, and the only difference is the tower and the pp. Good quality boat for the $$ but if your serious about wakeboarding spend a few more $$ or buy a nice used wakeboard boat. We bought our Rinker and we did'nt know we were going to get into wakeboarding , but when we did we sold it with only 40hrs on her. The other option was install a tower $2200, racks, pp, sacks, and when everything was said and done ($3,000 +) we still would have a runabout and not a wakeboard boat. Also you will need a 4 blade 16 pitch prop so it will pull you up, and with that you will still have to full throttle her. If you only board 10-20% then it may be great for you? My .2cents
Good luck |

The first questions to ask is how much do you want to spend and what percentage of the time will you be wakeboarding? If your only wakeboarding then it's not the right boat, but if riding is only a piece of what you use the boat for it may be right. You need to compare the $$$ with a dedicated wakeboat if that is what you need. _________________ Founder of Monster Tower Wakeboard Towers

Well you are not getting much help. The best I can do is tell you a friend has a 2004 Rinker 192, and is looking real hard at buying an X1. He likes the boat quality. The 192 just doesn’t have enough storage. I found it difficult to hold board & tube speeds. It would pop up on plane and jump in speed, then when I cut back it would sink back and slow way down but I’ve had that problem with I/O’s in general. We never ran with weight.
He doesn’t want to put the motor fins on because the dealer told him they make turning difficult and may cavitate his prop.
Perfectpass may solve this.
I bought a 2005 Moomba LSV for about the same money and did not feel compelled to test drive before I bought, they all have about the same motor and hull. Driving and weighting/configuring skill seems to be a bigger driver. If I was looking at an X1 I would definitely test drive towing someone.
My $.02, worth what you paid for it,

I have a 04 RX1. I've posted some long winded review on this board or on the "other" board at some time.
In sum: Lots of room, great runabout. Not a 'core wakeboard boat. If you can see past that, and you are secure in your manhood, it's one of the best bang for the buck NEWER boats you can get.
I'm a fat family man, who likes to try inverts, and never land them.
Better than any of my other friends boat, cause theirs doesn't exist....
This is the 5 liter 270 hp, with the High 5 prop, perfect pass and factory tower.
Stock Stereo is OK, I put 2 10's in with another amp. Loud enough to get dirty looks from all the old people at the docks.
Wake without any ballast and 3 adults in the boat is fine. It's a bit wider than most the other boats I'd been pulled behind, but this is the first boat I've ridden behind with a 96 inch beam. My wife hasn't been able to clear the wake behind this boat, but she can clear it fine behind a few other boats.
With 4 or 5 adults and the fat sack in the boat, the wake is plenty big for me.
It's a bit frustrating getting a bigger rider up out of the water if there's no weight in the bow of the boat. A 550# fat sack takes care of that problem.
With the perfect pass, it's not a problem holding a consistent speed, as long as it's faster than 20 mph. Seems to hunt at slower speeds. I might get the prop repitched and see if it helps with this.
The optional swim deck is huge. Lots of storage, and most importantly, it rides pretty well in 2 foot chop. (Our lakes are all tourist traps. So the water is rarely calm.)
Now this is another long winded review. hah. |

I have two friends with the same boat or similar just not the RX1 package, but have upgraded to it. PP is a must. holding speed is tough w/o . defiantley consider re-proping if wakeboarding is what you want to do. Lots of room, very spacious, handles rough water great. The wake is very wide. With stock prop it takes full throttle to pull avg. male rider out of the water. dpending on what you want the rinker for....I'd say take a look at the moomba XLV. _________________ LED Concepts |

Call Perfect Pass - you might want to adjust the settings on your pp to keep it from "hunting" at wakeboard speed. They told me to raise one setting and lower the other. Its easy to do - instructions to it are on their website.
I adjusted mine because of the same reason with full ballast and a boat load of friends. Works great now.
The prop repitch will help too.

If you're going to get into boarding with that price range you can buy a very very good 1-4 year old V-drive which has a great deal of room compared to the old direct drives (engine box in the middle) Like someone already posted if you're going to be wakeboarding almost everytime you take out the boat spend the money on an inboard you'll be much much happier in the long run. A moomba LSV would be something worth looking into. GReat wakeboat for the money. Really great boat with lost of room to stretch out. Not sure what they go for where you're located, but they're in your range at the high end here with the necessary options needed such as a tower pp and ballast. If you don't mind used you can definately find a tone of awesome used v-drives in you're range...most probably still have warranties left.
The flip side is is that if you really end up not liking the inboard and feel it doesn't suit your needs you can sell it and pretty much get your money right back. They hold their value very very well as opposed to an I/O. It all is up to you and what suit your needs. If you plan on riding around every day and not boarding except 1 -3 times a month than maybe the I/o better suits you. |

I agree with r3612 - The only other thing I would say is - look real hard at upgrading the engine on the Rinker to the 5.7. This will help alot with holding speed when the boat is weighted at wakeboard speed. It will also help at resale.

Hey Wake
I gotta brand new Tige 21I last year for 35k, so don't limit yourself on this one boat. I did test drive the RX1 and it performed very well. handled the chop MUCH better than any wakeboard boat out there, so if that is important to your friend, it must be taken into consideration. |

In the $30-$35K range, I would look and Centurion Cyclone, Moomba LSV, and some Malibus if you think you might primarily use it for wakeboarding. Sorry can't comment on the RX1. Use the search on this site and you will find plenty of discussion on these other models.
I agree with Monster Tower. Really depends on what you want to use it for and a top notch I/O may be the best bet, espeically if you are into cruising in choppy water. |
