Just wondering how many people on here surf? I might be going to Cali in the fall to go surfing. It looks like so much fun.

It is my first love, sorry, but wakeboarding fills the void quite nicely when it's flat. It's flat here alot you know! Crying or Very sad

Yeah surfing is cool. Surfing has like its own lifestyle and stuff. Its been around way longer then any other board sport. Although its been around a long time the sport is still progressing with airial moves. I mean Kelly Slater almost landed a rodeo clown at the pipe masters which is pretty sick.
I use to surf untill I moved to New York and now I just wakeboard which is still pretty cool. Although it doesnt give me the same feeling of being at the beach and surfing with my friends on a sunny day when the waves are going off.

I've been surfing for about 8 years now, love it.

If you wanna see a SICK air go to the Santa Cruz surfboards website & check out Barney's backflip, that's just wrong! No straps or nothin', just grab & whip it; sick!

Sean, where in California are you gonna go?

I surf a lot at Huntington Cliffs, Cottons break above Trestles), Upper Trestles and san Onofre. But with surfing you kinda just drive and find a spot. It is cool to check it all out. Each break offers a different wave.

If you really want to learn to surf I would recomend a beach like Seal Beach or maybe Bolsa Chica. They are both jsut North of Huntington Beach and have pretty emllow waves and not as many local wave hogs.

When I went surfing in Cali, at Huntington and the like, I noticed that the locals were super cool! Noone seemed to have an attitude problem like some of the guys over here. Maybe I just caught everyone on a good day or something!?! Anyways, you guys keep up your good attitudes towards life and don't rub in the fact that you get to surf about 3 times as much as me! Very Happy

Chase, if you surfed the pier at Huntington & didn't get vibed then you DID catch everyone on a good day.

I'd say Chase caught it on a good day! I surfed Huntigton about a year ago. I can hold my own out there, and have tons of respect for locals and the knowledge of ettiquite(sp?) in the line up......The locals in Huntington are dicks! I thought the guys up here in Santa Cruz were bad until that day to say the least.....I was surfing just as good if not better that most of the guys vibing in the line up, and they were treating me like a complete kook. I was even called a "Val" a few times???
A Val??......more like Nor-Cal Tranny..... Laughing Laughing

This was about 10 years ago! I surf well but there were definitely guys out there better than me and none of them were rude or anything! Oh well, this is one of the reasons I wakeboard more and surf less. I have been hassled by 14 and 15 year olds in the lineup before. Fearless bastards! It just isn't the same "fun" vibe in the water anymore so i have basically said piss on it and spent way too much money on wakeboarding instead! Shocked Now I just get hassled by the damn jetskiers! Evil or Very Mad

I know it's not as cool to most of you but on big days I've started body surfing the wedge. I've hit it twice and am totally stoked about it. One of my friends is part of Wedge crew and introduced me to the owner of Viper Fins, Fred Simpson. Fred told me if I went out he'd give me a free pair of Viper fins so, I did.

Stole this pic from a website but I've actually seen it break about that size.

Wakegurl, yes that's me. Here's the link to Barney's backflip.

Nor Cal, I respect guys that hit the Wedge, that's a GNARLY break. I've watched it when it was breaking double overhead & the spray from it was misting me 30 feet away.

Details just did an article on the Wedge crew. I guess my friend got a few quotes in and another friend JT is getting pummeled in the article.

I was at the Wedge the day that Slater surfed HUGE neck breakers. I have also been there for 2 different deaths. Some scary stuff. Most people do not know but on the other side of the jetty is the entrance to Newport/Balboa Bay. On the south wall inside the jetty they get huge surf on the biggest storms. It can be scarry though because if you crash you end up being pushed into the rocks. Some friends and I are gonna try doing some tow-in on teh next big swell.

From Huntington Pier if you venture north about 500 yards you will reach the Cliffs and a lot less hassle from the loser locals. The break is almost identical with smaller crowds.

Those Pier Junkies Suck Wang!

Mullet Man, I remember reading about that day Slater surfed the Wedge. He went out with Strider Wasilewski, right? They were gettin' some HEAVY barrels, that looked insane.

I heard the lifeguard tower is lined with neckbraces for all the bodysurfers & boogie boarders who get thrashed.

Funny story- When they first blackballed the Wedge the spongers and board surfers burnt the Wedge tower down.

Yeah Kyle, tell me about it. San Diego is a nightmare in the summer! I'm thinking about getting one of those blackball beaters 'cuz sometimes the waves are just TOO good on the other side of that flag.
