|
I can now clear the wake almost all the time, but I've realised I am getting less height now than a year ago when I couldn't clear the wake and kept casing it.
The first picture is of me now, and the second of me a year ago, and I'm getting less height now than I was.
Here's a link to two of my badder jumps, the toeside one particularly bad: http://photos.wakeboarder.com/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=1693
Does anyone have an idea of what I'm doing wrong and any tips on how to get more height consistently.

On HS you need to load the line just a bit more at the wake.. You have a nice slow progressive cut into the wake but you never increase the line load while edging up the wake.
On TS you need to keep both hands on the handle for starters and once you get comfortable doing that you need to stop bending over at the waist. You loose all your line load and energy when you let go with one hand and bend over at the waist. To fix this I would start closer in before making the cut at the wake so you have no choice but to keep generating line load at the wake.

Well you can see that you have a different board? That could maybe be another factor, maybe the 1st pic has more distance and the 2nd pic has more pop?

I can help you out with one thing in addition to what J_DOGG said.
Look at how your arms are positioned. They are really low and are throwing your center of gravity completly off. You are being pulled over the front of the board.
Relax your shoulders and just keep your elbows in a little bit and raise your arms up.

| It looks like you're using a nice stretchy ski rope - get a non-stretch rope if that's the case. In the video you're just not cutting in very hard. You're not loading the line (as mentioned above) because you just aren't cutting very hard and holding your edge. You should also have more weight on your front foot to keep the nose of the board from coming up as shown in the 2 pics.

No, its low stretch rope I bought from a board shop, and I've read that after a few goes low stretch ropes will lose all their stretch anyway and be fine.
I went out last weekend, shortened my rope and started my cut from closer to the wake. I really focused on digging my edge in and leaning back, and I found I had way more control and more consistent height.
Also, toeside I learnt to wait and not do anything at the wake, just held on with both hands and let the top of the wake kick me up, and those got way more consistent too. I'm guessing that if I just apply those same principles to a long rope I should be alright, so thanks everyone for the help.

| a lot of people say they will lose their stretch, but they wont. trust me i used a low stretch rope for a long time (same rope the whole time) then when i switched to no stretch it was a major difference.

keep your arms closer in to your hips, that will help immensely, it looked like you let your arms out a bit right after you took off. if you keep the line tension it will send you much higher.
