ok this is how I do it:
Open the pic you want in a program (paint works)
click save as... (under file)
below file name in "save as...", there should be another bar thingy that says "save as type" push the down arrow next to it and options should come up such as .jpg etc.
there you go. |

It is the same way seeing as they are both the same type of file. Though if your avatar is animated it can only be saved as a .gif and still keep the animation.

It should be the same unless it is animated like Mike said. Also if it has a transparent background it has to get a .gif. What is it saved as right now??

IN paint goto image , stretch/skew. Change it to say 50% in vert and horiz, save it. The file size (and image size ) should be reduced. You can save as a JPG GIF or BMP with paint, they are in the pull down under save as.

For a avatar it does not need to be 80 x 80. Just post it up in the media section here or on a website, get the URL of the image, and place it in the "Link to off-site Avatar:" box. I don't think the size matters then.

Did it not work? You just have to keep scaling it down till its 80 x 80, thats how I did mine. It might help if you goto Image attributes and change it to pixles from inches then you can see what it is and how far you need to scale it. If you still have probs email it to me and I can see if I can get it.
