Sure she has the right to voice her opinion, but good god, think about the type peeps who listen to country music, not the peaceful Yanni type, and mostly from Southern states, what an idiot..... radio stations here will not play any of their songs, TX loyals.....

i think that if ppl keep on oposing the gov't on this war it'll turn into another vietnam. one of the major reasons why the americans lost was lack of political support. i know that ppl have the freedom of speech but citizens should gather around their gov't and support them and be patriotic for once.

People need to quit using their stage to voice their political views. It completely backfired on the Dixie Chicks, and I just think it's stupid. People are there to hear their music or see their acting...not to hear their political views.

A true History buff would tell you it was called the the Vietnam Conflict not war.
We didn't loose, we just didn't accomplish all our goals, we did free a people from brutality. How is that loosing?
I bet you still believe Christopher Columbus discovered America!..lol...

She told a concert in London how ashamed and embarassed she was that Bush was from her home state of Texas.
As an American, she has the right to speak her mind and I stand behind her on that. As an entertainer, if she wants to use her status to put forth her message, she certainly can do as she wishes.
As an American, I also have the right to voice my opinion freely. That fat bitch can eat the peanuts out of my sheat. Getting famous, then fat, then stupid is not exactly the way to build your career. Remember this moment when you see VH1's documentary in a couple of years. Instead of heroin and booze that does the band in, it will be ice cream and stupidity.
I am not a huge Bush fan (for his pro big biz, crap environment politics, not his war politics), but the guy was a great Gov for Texas and has done NOTHING to embarass Texas or the United States. You may not agree with his politics, but he has done a solid job. When you throw in all the crap he has had to deal with since he took office, he has done an outstanding job.

I wish bush would go on TV and just Reeeeeeeeem all of the musicians out there that critiqued him. I can see it now: "So the Dixie chicks are embarassed that I'm from TX, yet they can't even write there own music." "sheryl Crow, it took a duet with Kid Rock to bring you back to light, roll the intro from behind the music please." I bet they would love that, yet he would just be voiceing his opinion....

Yeah-she totally screwed her band! I know here in Knoxville, TN-people are asking that their songs not be played/etc. Being that she was over seas and representing the US-she should have quelled her personal opinions.
Travis Tritt spoke out against them today!
I know they have lost me as a fan!

Kind of long, but not bad, from Alabama State Auditor Beth Chapman...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I?m here tonight because men and women of the United States military have given their lives for my freedom. I am not here tonight because Sheryl Crowe, Rosie O'Donnell, Jane Fonda, Martin Sheen, the Dixie Chicks, Barbra Streisand, the Beastie Boys, George Clooney or Phil Donahue, sacrificed their lives for me.
If my memory serves me correctly, it was not movie stars or musicians, but the United States Military who fought on the shores of Iwo Jima the jungles of Vietnam , and the beaches of Normandy .
Tonight, I say we should support the President of the United States and the U.S. military and tell the liberal, tree-hugging, hippy, Birkenstock wearing, tie-dyed liberals to go make their movies and music and whine somewhere else.
After all, if they lived in Iraq , they wouldn't be allowed the freedom of speech they?re being given here today -- ironically, they would be put to death at the hands of Sadam Husssein or Osama Bin Laden.
I want to know how the very people who are against war because of the loss of life, can possibly be the same people who are for abortion?
They are the same people who are for animal rights but against the rights of the unborn.
The movie stars say they want to go to Iraq and serve as human shields for the Iraqis, I say let them buy a one-way ticket and go.
No one likes war, I hate war. But the one thing I hate more is the fact that this country has been forced into war -- innocent people have lost their lives -- and there but for the grace of God, it could have been my brother, my husband, or even worse my own son.
On December 7, 1941 , there are no records of movie stars treading the blazing waters of Pearl Harbor .
On September 11, 2001 ; there are no photos of movie stars standing as human shields against the debris and falling bodies ascending from the World Trade Center . There were only policemen and firemen -- underpaid civil servants who gave their all with nothing expected in return.
When the USS Cole was bombed, there were no movie stars guarding the ship -- where were the human shields then?
If America?s movie stars want to be human shields, let them shield the gang-ridden streets of Los Angeles, or New York City, let them shield the lives of the children of North Birmingham whose mothers lay them down to sleep on the floor each night to shelter them from stray bullets.
If they want to be human shields, I say let them shield the men and women of honesty and integrity who epitomize courage and embody the spirit of freedom by wearing the proud uniforms of the United States Military. Those are the people who have earned and deserve shielding.
Throughout the course of history, this country has remained free, not because of movie stars and liberal activists but because of brave men and women who hated war too -- but lay down their lives so that we all may live in freedom. After all -- "What greater love hath no man, that he lay down his life for his friend," but in this case a country.
We should give our military honor and acknowledgement and not let their lives be in vain. If you want to see true human shields, walk through Arlington Cemetery . There lies human shields, heroes, and the BRAVE Americans who didn?t get on television and talk about being a human shields, they were human shields.
I thank God tonight for freedom -- those who bought and paid for it with their lives in the past -- those who will protect it in the present and defend it in the future.
America has remained silent too long. God-fearing people have remained silent too long.
We must lift our voices united in a humble prayer to God for guidance and the strength and courage to sustain us throughout whatever the future may hold.
After the tragic events of Sept. 11th, my then eleven-year-old son said terrorism is a war against us and them and if you're not one of us, then you're one of them.
So in closing tonight, let us be of one accord, let us stand proud, and let us be the human shields of prayer, encouragement and support for the President, our troops and their families and our country.
May God bless America , the land of the free, the home of the brave and the greatest country on the face of this earth!

I like that a lot Otto...
John: I was making a remark about how the musicians seem to be taking a personal stance against Bush directly on the issue. If he were to make a personal direct attack aginst them as they have done to him they would be pissed. I think it would be great if it happened, I know he would never do something like that though. For a group that seems to care more about speaking about freedom and liberties than actually standing up for them they need to re-evaluate the situation as a whole.

| its funny how a few months ago my @$$ was ripped on this message board for writing about Sean Penn and his comments standing in the middle of Bagdad with a ton of towelheads protesting and yelling anti-american s@#$ in the background, Where are the freedom of speech guys now? if I recall correctly it was Swass and a few others who went freakin' nuts defending the guy and his rights, so how are the chicks any different now? just thought I'd stir the pot a little, I'm sure Swass will call me some degrading names again.....

I'll defend the Dixie Chicks. And that statement from Alabama State Auditor Beth Chapman just sounds like ultra-conservative preachy grandstanding to me.
I don't think the Dixie Chicks give a crap if you buy their records or not. Their latest release makes that pretty clear.
Here's just one example of how irrational the statement from the Alabama State Auditor is:
| Quote: |
If my memory serves me correctly, it was not movie stars or musicians, but the United States Military who fought on the shores of Iwo Jima the jungles of Vietnam , and the beaches of Normandy .
|
So what? What does fighting in WWII or Vietnam have to do with speaking out against what you perceive to be an injustice? So only veterans have the right to speak out for or against their governments? What crap. Oh yea, and by the way, Vietnam was lost because the peasants of S.Vietnam didn't understand democracy, and would not stand for a foreign nation on their soil. And we wouldn't commit 100% to winning. Don't kid yourself if you think that public opinion can have that big an effect on a conflict.

That pretty much sounded like an aggressive male hounding on a woman who doesn't have her thoughts together or is too flustered to come up the answer to a question that is loaded.
I'm pretty tired of people who say that if you don't like what your country is doint you should just leave. That's just ridiculous. If you love your country, and disagree with its policies, you have a responsability to try to change it. That's a little thing that's part of a concept called democracy that some people apparently don't understand.
I think Bush is a moron who went to an Ivy league school and has a staff of people who teach him what to say and how to say it. Yet he can't even stop saying nuc-U-ler. So should I leave the country? No, I should vote for someone better next time.

thanks otto.
what pisses me off is i would bet half of the anti-war people really dont care that much about the war. most of them are just anti-bush and will support anything that opposes him. like the womens rights people. i never heard them praise bush for liberating the oppressed women in afghanistan or freeing their country, but guess what? women have no freedom in iraq and all the liberal, bush hating women dont say anything about that. they just see an oppurtunity to knock bush and jump on it.
sometimes women just dont make sense.
(discalimer: that last sentence was not against all women, or intended to piss you off unless you are one of the women that oppose war for no apparent reason other than you oppose bush. if so i hope you are pissed.)

Cameraboy - You are correct that everyone has a right to speak their mind, not just vets. That is what the lady from Alabama did and that is what we are doing here.
You are dead wrong on the Vietnam issue however. The peasants of Vietnam and their understanding of democracy, or lack thereof, had zero to do with the outcome of the conflict. There was no peasant uprising over US troops on their land either. You need to do some serious research before you start spouting off on issues you obviously know little about. Start by reading A Bright Shining Lie: John Paul Vann and America in Vietnam by Neil Sheehan. It's the most comprehensive non fiction piece out there.

| And if you really want to see how the decisions are made in the White House...NOT the way you state, with Bush as a puppet...read Bush at War, by Bob Woodward. Starts on September 11 and goes fairly current. Outlines EXACTLY how we got to where we are today.

| yeah, I hated Clinton too, he was a f'in embarassment to our country, we lost sight of the real issues while he was gettin off in the oval office, part of the reason we are in this conflict today, ...but anyway I would still support him in a situation like this and not add fuel to fire by degrading him standing in another country full of peeps who hate Americans....duh? peeps tend to single out just the president on the war issue, like he is the only one making the decision to go in..... why not put powell in the hotseat? I think Bush has done a great job handling all the $h!$ that has happened recently, just thinking about Gore handling our foreign affairs gives me the creeps.....

"I think Bush is a moron who went to an Ivy league school and has a staff of people who teach him what to say and how to say it. Yet he can't even stop saying nuc-U-ler"
OK... when did Bush say this? I seem to forget the last time Bush said anything pertaining to the use of nuc's aginst Iraq or any other country.... Also you say Bush is a moron that went to an ivy league school. Do you have a bachelors degree from yale, did you follow it up with a MBA from Harvard. Were you the first govenorin the history of TX to be re-elected to consecutive 4 year terms? Obviously he is not a moron:
a mentally retarded person who has a potential mental age of between 8 and 12 years and is capable of doing routine work under supervision.
It's great to see people taking out on the person delivering the news to the country, but those same people need to remember that if the MAJORITY of the Senate and Congress, along with the current population did not agree to what is going on it would not happen.

I agree with cameraboy, it is ok to disagree with what your country is doing and it is ok to voice your opinion. I think that everyone should individually question just about everything; however, no matter what our troops should be supported. I also think that it is your right to express your belief however you want to non-violently, within reason, etc...
What people must realize though is that if you disagree with what this country is doing and express your belief immaturely, irrationallly, start name calling, etc... no one is going to take you seriously. Nearly all of these antiwar celebrities are doing just this. There are plenty of people that disagree with this war that people don't want to kick out, that's because they are expressing their belief rationally.
I think anyone who actually knows the facts would support the war, especially those that care about the Iraqi Civilians.
Also, in Vietnam, we killed over 10% of their population. That would be like if a country came into the U.S. and killed 29 million people, still think they won?

He says Nuc-U-ler, instead of NucLEar, just about every time he says the word. I'm referering to his pronunciation, not using nukes against Iraq.

Your logic is faulty. Having a degree from Harvard or Yale does not automatically mean you are not less inteligent than the average Joe.
My point is that his undergrad grades are dismal, yet he managed to get into Yale. I wonder how? His Yale grades were bad as well, yet he managed to get an MBA from Harvard. hmmm, that is interesting as well. He can't even pronounce the word nuclear correctly, even with a staff of people who groom him on how to speak, yet he holds the highest office in the country, though not by winning the popular vote. I think someone has been pulling strings for GWB his whole life. And I was using "moron" in the figuritive sense, no the literal sense. Only a moron wouldn't know that.
| Quote: |

|
Who were the Viet Cong, then? We were doomed to failure because we tried to bring democracy to a people who who were not ready for it, or maybe didn't even want it. I'll drom the Vietnam thing, though, so we can stay on the GW topic.
