Anyway I'm looking to get my first wakeboard soon. I started wakeboarding last summer but just rented each time I went which was kind of a pain. Anyway I was wondering if this deal is good:

Hyperlite Motive 144/ Spin Package for 299.99.

Thats a big board. How big are you? I had a motive for my first board. It was good for learning but then needed something better. Hit up some dealers at boat shows. A lot of places might be offering specials deals on pro shop. I"m offering paid sales tax plus a few other quirks at my dealership.

I'm 6'2'' and just under 200 lbs. From what I've heard this board size would suit me, but maybe I'm wrong.

Mikeob1, mike Im 6' 1" and 225, and I've ridden a 142 TFD for the past two years, 144 may be a tiny bit big, but the motive is a pretty decent board. However I think those bindings will really limit you in the near future, maybe you should check out a site called www.wiredsport.com, they have the Gator Caddy and the Gator Savage both better boards IMO, they also have the Gator Harris, but that may be a bit too advanced for you; then take the money you have left over and see if you can get some better bindings perhaps from the closeout section of www.buywake.com, they have CD PS01's, and several Hype and LF bindings for cheap enough, that are much nicer than the spins or splits

Would a 140 be too small then, or maybe just right?

A 140 would be about right. You might want to look at some leftover '04 equipment. I could hook you up with a '04 LF Litmus 141 and some good bindings for that price.

Mikeob1, I would say 141 to 143, personally I think the litmus is poopy, but just my opinion, it's definately a board you should demo first, it has it's own feel very unique, you'll either love it or hate it

I'm 6'1", 209 lbs. and I started on a Motive 140 with Splits. I wished I would have gotten the 144 because I like to ride a little higher in the water. I went to an Era 147 with Highbacks 3 months later.

I liked the Motive and it was a great board to start out with. It is very stable but it felt a little too locked in for me after a short time. I like a looser feel, however; I wouldn't have wanted to start out as loose as I ride now.

Since you already know how to ride and are planning on continuing, definitely get something other than the Splits. They are a binding that is designed to fit a size range. Get a binding that you can fit to your foot unless you plan on sharing your board with other people. You can find some great deals on 04' bindings on Ebay.

Try to demo as many boards and bindings as you can before buying. I demoed 12 boards from different companies before I settled on one. Now my Motive is the community board on my boat. Be patient and you'll find the board that's right for you.

Thanks for the help everyone. I think I'll just wait until summer and then demo some boards from the local shop.

the bindings are probably more important than the board itself, and the bindings that usually come in a package aren't really that good. demo, demo, demo!
