I don't know about all of you guys, but I've become addicted to downloading music from the internet. It started with kazaa, and I began building my music collection, but I always wanted full cd's. It'd take forever to download and find every single song that was on a full cd. Plus, my school put bandwidth restrictions on downloading mp3 and movie files, so it took forever to download. Now that I've found mIRC, I can download full albums in 10 minutes, and with very little effort. I now have almost 17 gigs of music on my computer, and its growing every day. Any other addicts out there? Who's got the most music on their computer?

Ok, its a long time since I've seriously used mIRC, but when you download, don't you create a direct connection? Thus making it P2P? I could be well wrong here..

yeah true, but its not a specified p2p program like those others....where u have to share. like on mirc, if u dont want to share, u dont have 2....so it eats less bandwidth. plus most of the p2p programs r just loaded with spyware, and those eat bandwidth

I use morpheus now, but it is not good for whole CD's. Other than that I am happy with the program.

its actually supposed to be a chat program...Internet Relay Chat. but people set up file servers in certain channels and u can dl from them, usually at pretty good speeds, but if the channel has alot of people in it, u could be sitting in queue for a long-@ss time... Rolling Eyes

if u wanna give it a try, heres the mainpage of mirc http://www.mirc.com/

ya i think kazaa's still the best. the new morpheus became really gay. kazaa's pretty much like the old morpheus. i think that's the best way to go. it's kinda funny that napster started this whole thing and then they got sued and had to charge ppl per download, but now there's tons of free downloading programs.

They started doing a copy inhibit feature on a lot of new dvd's and movies. I'm sure they're going to start doing something similar on cd's. There'll always be ways around it though. I think the future of music is on the internet, but I'm not sure how artists are going to make money off of it yet. Maybe they'll set up sites to have their songs and sell advertising. We'll see

Zach - I've already seen a few bands try doing that. I don't know the prices or much about it, but they just have it so you can download the mp3's from their website at a cost.

Movie companies have also started to put out false copies of movies on kazaa and other file sharers.

all dvds have the copyright feature. they encode the whole disc in something called CSS. there r actually a couple other ones 2, but thats the basis for the encoding. if u bought the 2nd fast&furious soundtrack, you shouldve noticed it cant be burned. i tried everything, that thing will not burn. atxwakechic, anytime you download using Kazaa or even mIRC, you run the risk of getting a virus. Make sure your anti-virus is current.

If you are going to use Kazaa, use Kazaa Lite. It's Kazaa without the spyware and bad stuff like that.

If I had known, though, I would've started w/ IRC a looooong time ago!

jumalian - thats awesome man...i love getting movies from mirc.

jello - it does take some getting used 2...but once u got it. theres a simple way to look at it. ok, there are 2 types of servers....XDCC & FSERVE. when u go to a chatroom, if a server posts what is available and gives a message like /msg BOT-347 xdcc send #(packet number) u just look at the thing u want, and check the number, type that in & replace (packet number) with whatever # it is. thats an XDCC server. FSERVE r a little more complicated. these wont post exactly what they have, theyll give a little paragraph lookin thing like. Server: VC-BOT online Trigger: /ctcp VC-BOT get some $hit! Sends: 2/2 Queues 24/50 etc etc etc.....now, when u get online with these servers, it opens up a private chat window. to get on, just type the /ctcp VC-BOT get some $hit, or whatever the name/message is. then when u open it up....ull have to use these commands ALOT....DIR and .. like this
lets say when u hit DIR u get a list

MOVIES
GAMES
MUSIC

lets say u want a movie

CD MOVIES

then type DIR and u get...

DIE.ANOTHER.DAY.DVD.SCREENER.CENTROPY
OLD.SCHOOL.TS-ESOTERIC
RED.DRAGON.DVD.SCREENER
etc..etc..etc
lets say u want old school, ud type

CD OLD.SCHOOL.TS-ESOTERIC
then DIR

basically u go through that whole CD BLAH, BLAH, BLAH and DIR until u see filenames .mpg .cue .bin .rar .whatever

then ud type
GET OLD.SCHOOL.TS.CD1.mpg

and it would either start sending immediately....or more likely, ud be placed in queue and as soon as a queue slot for u is opened, then itd send

its a little complicated at first, but it gets hella easy after awhile. Smile

nick - theres both, they had a 2nd soundtrack for the 1st movie. it included stuff by saliva, hoobastank, primer 55, etc. and yes this summer, theres a 2nd movie.....2 Fast & 2 Furious

oh yeah, forgot to add something to the instructions

whenever u want to back out of a directory, like lets say uve queued the 1st half of old school, and now u wanna get the other half......

type CD..
type that until u get see the option for disc 2, then just do the DIR DISC 2 and start on the path to the 2nd file.

Jello John,

Another way is to go to www.packetnews.com and www.mydownloader.com, then do a search for what you want. They'll come back with a listing of channels and bots and packet #, that have what you're looking for. From there, just click on the bot, then it'll take you to the mIRC window and ask you to connect to that channel. Once you're in that channel, find the bot's name, double click to private message the bot, then type the message xdcc send (packet #), then enter. That's it! Done!

Hype, some Mac IRC apps can be found at http://www.ircle.com, http://www.macirc.com, and http://www.snak.com.

For some good Mac p2p apps, check out http://www.bigredh.com and http://www.carracho.com.

Oh, another good one I use all the time for music is iSwipe. Check out http://www.hillmanminx.com/.
