| Why don't you just go to the Admissions site of each College/University that you have interest? |

| colleges usually look at a combination of class rank, sat score, gpa, and ethnic background when admitting you into college. just check "other" for your race on all the application forms and your sat and you will probably have a better chance of getting in. |

| Where do you guys take the SAT in Canada? Do Canadian colleges also accept it or is it just a US thing? |

Wes unfortunatly a lot of schools SAY that they look at everything, but they sometimes don't. When schools get all of the applications they throw away a large number of the applications based on SATs/ACT scores alone (why would they want dumb students when they can have smart ones??). It doesnt matter what kind of extra cirricular activities you have if you arent smart (unless your a recruited athlete, then its different). Class rank and GPA are not as important because not all school rank and also because not all schools are equally difficult.
Sean go to their website and look for a page that has info on this year's students. The page I'm talking about will show a breakdown of students and it will give their type of major, their SAT/ACT and possibly their high school GPA. Most schools have it buried somewhere on their site...and if you cant find it then ask for them to send you a packet w/ info (they will DEFINETLY do that).
If you can find this info then you will see how high of an SAT/ACT you will need to be accepted into the school.
hope this helps... _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

Scott makes a good point. Some schools will also not admit students if you apply to an impacted major. Check to see what it takes to get in for each major. Different majors have different GPA and SAT requirements. If your major is impacted or you don't have what it takes apply for another major that you know you'll get into. Take all general ed your first year then change your major.
I have friends who wanted to get into an engineering program but it was impacted so he applied as an agriculture major. Changed after his first year no problems. _________________ If I agreed with you we would both be wrong. |

We take the SATs at local schools. Canadian universities don't really look at them.
I'm thinking about taking them, but I don't think I'm gonna be heading to the states for university anymore. I'm making my way to BC for some west coast bud! haha.... I take the PSATs and got in the 96th percentile... no idea what that would be close to on SATs... don't really care either... |

| On the PSAT, I think you look at the first two scores, not the writing one, and multiply each by ten and then add them to sort of get a feel for how you would do on a SAT even though they are different tests. I think I was in the 95-97th percentile range also. |

stay in Ontario dude. Do you really want to pay $30k US for tuition? plus a whole bunch of other stuff.
I wrote SAT's and had scholarship offers for baseball at quite a few schools (including some in Florida) that basically gave me free tuition. Even with free tuition it would still be as expensive as staying in Ontario and the education wouldn't be as good.
I'm not sure if you're an athlete or not (as in being recruited for a sport) but for Ivy League you need about 1300, but I know someone who went to Princeton with a 1000 SAT score, so anything can happen.
I decided to stay here in Ontario, I can go home occasionaly (for not a lot of money) and I knew some people from my high school. |

ONLY $30K??? He's gonna be payin tuition as an international student.
The PSAT doesnt really mean that much. It basically only tells you if your a complete moron or not. Don't think that your gonna get exactly a 1410 by doin that "add each and multiply by 10" crap. the SAT is completely different than the SAT imo. _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

Wow, there seems to be a lot of intelligent posts here. "Ontario sucks" "I want some BC bud"
Let me guess, you were a geek in high school and want to go somewhere where nobody knows who you are?
It seems that you've also taken the time to go to a website and look at the admission criteria for different US schools, other than noticing that "there are hot chicks there".
Unless you're parents are footing the bill, don't even think about the US for school.
If you're also wondering about going to college instead, I would suggest you start thinking what you want to do with your life first. |

different people do better at different ones. typically in my class the girls did better on the ACT than the SAT and the guys did just the opposite. i made an 1180 on my SAT on the first try the summer before my senior year and i made a 17 on my ACT in the middle of my senior year but i didnt do the smartest things to prepare for it the night before.
personally i like the SAT better because it had less reading comprehension and more math. |

| ModelAMan, perhaps not everyone goes to university looking for the absolute best education they can get. I want a solid education, but I'd rather have a good time. I really don't feel that I'll have a good time in Ontario. I hate the cold, I want to get FAR away from my parents, and I'm just looking for a new scene, and the places I listed are pretty damn sick compared to Ontario. Not everyone is in the same boat as you. Maybe Ontario was the best choice for you, but don't push your views on other people. Expressing your opinion is just fine, but if people don't agree don't tell them they're stupid because they don't listen to you. |

| maestro- deffinately look at a few schools before you decide on one. i wish i had looked around more or at least thought about my decision more now. you might want to go to an easy school or what some consider a party school for your first year or two then decide if you want to make kick ass grades and graduate from a well respected school or have fun and stay at the party school. i would deffinately advise everyone to move away from home for college though. you learn a lot about yourself and more about how the world really works. you may not want to get too far from home though cause believe it or not some weekends you may wish you were back home. |

It is possible to go to school in Canada away from your home.
Answer this question.
Are you paying for school? And if you were what choice would you make?
I think your answer may be different when you have to pay for stuff. It's nice to have parents with money that creates oppurtunities for you, but when the item in question is "where are the best parties?" I think you're missing the point. |

Wes - I'm definitely not saying I'm just gonna look at a couple schools. I have my eyes on quite a few, which is why I have so many possible options in terms of location.
ModelAMan - I know it's possible to go to school in Canada yet still be away from home. That's why BC is on my list. I would not consider going anywhere else other than that, just because I hate the weather and atmosphere of other places in Canada. Like I said, everyone is in a different situation. It sounds like you worked your ass off to get yourself through school in Ontario, and apparently you are glad to have stayed in Ontario. That's cool, I commend you on it. But personally there is no WAY I will stay in Ontario. My sister went to university in the states so I know about how much it costs and all the other aspects of it.
Finally, I'm not choosing a school because it has a reputation as a great party school. If all I wanted to do was party I probably would stay in Ontario. I want a good education that I can get in a warm climate with moderate opportunities to party.
I'm not really taking offence to your comments, I just think you should convey them in more of an opinion manner as opposed to a "I'm right, do what I say or you'll be sorry" manner. |

My parents REALLY want me to go to Trinity Western, but I REALLY don't. I already got in there, but like I said I don't wanna go there. I'm looking at UVic or UBC. All the universities out there have seemingly low standards (65 overall? Come on!) and they aren't too expensive (at least the public ones.)
I'm taking a year off to ride and make some $$ first, so I got lotsa time to think things through and try to convince my parents. |

| thats what i did, i took this year off to make some money and decide what i really want to do. I might be headed to to UVic aswell, but i might be going to cranbrook to go to the college of the rockies. It is just a college but you get the same degree as at UVic, and you have to go out to UVic for the first 2 months and the last year of the course (teaching) I was thinking of that because i have a cabin on a lake there so i can live on my own there, ride lots in the spring and summer, and snowboard in the winter. |

| That would be sick man... That's what looks so nice about BC.. in February when it's freezing here it's like t-shirt weather out there. Of course they get rain, but I can deal with that. I like rain. It's good too 'cause you can snowboard, skate and wakeboard all in the same day. Gotta love that... |
