Whats up....We just picked up our new '03 Air nautique. I was suprised when we got it, because the tower was has an aluminum finish to it. When the dealer told me that, i was thinking a polished aluminum. It's like brushed almost. None of my family really likes it, i'll attach a picture and let me know what you think. The dealer told us that it came through that way...a littly fishy sounding, but i can't complain. He really worked with us through everything and gave us a great deal. But i've always seen gloss black towers from correct craft, never this kind. We're going to get it black though. Should we spend the extra money and get it powdercoated or just get a good paintjob on it? Thanks ahead of time
Jake

| I have seen them polished like that. If I were you, I would get the tower painted or powdercoated to match the burgandy on your boat. I think that would look awesome! Let's see some more pics of the boat!

Actually Nautique offers their towers in black powderoat, brushed, or polished aluminum. The black powdercoat costs a bit more because it has to be coated. Personally I would leave the tower the way it is on your boat, it compliments the titanium secondary stripe better. If it were black it would probably look weird.
Don't listen to me though, it's your boat, do what you want...

I bet you could find a shop that would polish that for you. I think that would be sweet.

I would have like to gone with a brushed tower, but it would have looked stupid on an all black boat. Had I gone with the titanium secondary stripe I probably would have gotten that done.

Here are a few other pictures. They make the tower look better than it actually does. I know we're going to get it powdercoated, just what color?

John is correct, I have an 01 Air that I ordered with a brushed tower. It did take a little getting used to, but I have no regrets. It does not show any finger prints, nor scratches. I purchased matching brushed racks from SkyJac and like the look.
Great boat. Best of luck in whatever you decide.

I'd say get it polished if it doesn't cost more than the powder coat.
Don't paint it though. The powdercoating shouldn't cost that much more and it would be less likely to get scratched.

| I have the polished FCT on my '01 SAN. I like the look but I use the boat in salt water. Does anyone know how bad the tower will pit due to salt water exposure? People have recommended I get it coated as well. I don't really want to. Can I just polish the tower with some aluminum polish if it does pit due to salt?

Jake,
Your tower is what Nautique calls a milled tower, which is about $300.00 less than getting it black. You can either have someone paint it for you or have it polished. I will email you a picture of a polished tower, it looks sick. Just remember to clear coat it after it's polished.

P.S.
Your dealer should of known this, my dealer did.
I don't know if you ordered a polished tower and got the milled tower, or what happened?
All I know is the dealer didn't pay as much for it!

yeah, that's a 2003 air 216 sport edition or whatever they're calling it this year. So it doesn't have the radio and all the extra junk. We added perfect pass, depth finder, composite platform, tandem axle trailer, and i think thats it. The price was in the $34,000 range out the door.

That is a nice boat bro. I would leave the tower that brushed aluminum. Although if you are for sure going to change it go with black.

| I think you got a great price on that boat! How much cheaper was a 206? Did you get the larger wake tanks in the trunk? I like the burgundy, did you choose that color or buy from the showroom? The composite platform is sweet. Over here on the west coast I would have to pay about $48,000 for your boat. I love the nautiques but I can't justify the price. I could however justify paying $34,000. Has anyone else got this type of a deal on an 03 206 or 216?

We didn't even price a 206, so i couldn't tell ya. But yes, we did get the ballast tanks. We had to order it from correct craft, so we chose that color scheme. I like the composite platforms better than the tique platform. Less maintainance and in my opinion looks better too. Just look around, i'm sure you'll find a dealer that will give you a good deal

Check into powdercoating a anodized surface. All of the fishing towers and many of the Wakeboard tower start with the aluminum mill sending the fabricator the tube that is already hardened, then brushed, then anodized. They then bend and weld the tower together and finally paint over each weld so it does not corrode (oxidize). Look close, are the welds painted?
If the tower was anodized you probably will have to sand off the anodized layer before you powder coat to get a durable finish. We make a polished then anodized tower and wanted to take some of our incoming stock and send it to a powder coater to offer other colors and were told we could not coat over the anodized finish with out removing the anodizing first.
If you polish it out you will need to have it anodized again, which is probably not an option - but if you did'nt have it anodize again you could end up having to polish it regularly to keep it looking nice (take away from riding time).
Unless it is really on your nerves, maybe give it a summer to see if you can get used to it. You could be opening a can of worms.
Bill

mtb that is the coolest boat I've ever seen! Holy crap it gets me excited just thinking about it! Amazing work all around! That definitely gets me pumped to make some changes to my boat.
Jake your boat looks cool to. Maybe you already know this but it's the dealerships responsibility to powder coat your tower. If they promised too and then told you it wasn't done in the factory they're trying to pull a fast one on you. The aluminum looks nice but I'd go with black.

Hey Thanks for you Coment's, It will be cool when wakeboarder has the links to other cool boats and there owners and what they have done to them. I wish there were other People that were able to have the time to put together web-sights like my'n that showed what they have and what can be don to there boat's Then I would have a realy good reason to surf the web. I love checking out other people's boats! and seing what they have done with them Everyone has done some kinda cool mod to there boat. That's another cool thing about boats is that People are so cool about having you on board and showing you the work they have done Its not like you walk down the street and people have you into there house and show you the Remodle they have done, WE NEED a CRIB"S edition of Boat's. I feel like a Post Hi-jacker this was not about my boat, Im going to start a new thread I want to see if there is other people out there.
P.S If any one need's help with there Boat e-mail me. I can do what ever I can over e-mail
