wssx2, I use a pair of FireWire 400 Maxtor 200GB 7200RPM drives in a RAID-0 setup for backing up my data, as well as a Lacie Extreme2 200GB firewire 800 drive for extra storage. The LaCie is a bit faster, but both work very well.

| wssx2, I got the Maxtors at CompUSA and the LaCie at an Apple store, but they're both widely available on the Internet and at brick-and-mortar retailers. |

If you want something really portable look for a notebook HD (2.5" drive) in a bus powered enclosure. I haven't had any luck with bus powered USB2 drives with my Powerbook but the firewire models work well. The ADS technologies enclosures work well and you can get notebook drives up to at least 80gb (or possibly more now, haven't checked them out for a while.) _________________ Rich Dykmans |

I use LaCie FireWire 800 drives exclusively and have had good luck with them. They aren't super friendly to lug around, but I don't capture in the field anyways.
Isler - Apple store has decent prices, but froogle.com it for better deals. I can usually get my drives for $.90-$1.00 a Gb... _________________ 1989 Supra Comp TS6M, 06 GLI for haulin'.

Definately go for the Lacie. We have used many different drives at work and these are the best. They also look good with the mac
I remember reading somewhere about a new french drive that had a very large capacity and was very fast. It had the styling of the G5 tower. I haven't heard anything since though. |

| 89comp, yeah, it was more of a "need" thing at the Apple store... I was on the road all this past summer on a bus tour, and I happened to be near an Apple store, so I picked it up there. Oh well, it works well. |
