I am looking to get one of these cameras and am trying to get more information on them and was wondering what you guys think of the canon digital rebel verses the nikon d70

When I was looking for a DSLR and these were the 2 in my price range it was to me an easy choice for the Nikon D70. To many other ppl I have talked to they have said the D70 is way better than the D Rebel. And no it wasn't just a Nikon vs Canon thing.

I eventualy got the Canon 20D. I felt it was worth the $300 over the D70

They're both good cameras but remember once you pick a mfg and start buying lenses it becomes a royal pain to switch unless you can afford to own both. At this point the 20D is head and shoulders better than the D70 so if you find out that's what you want later you can sell the Rebel, lose a $100 or so and move up vs starting all over again with having to buy Canon Lenses. Dpreview.com will layout the exact differences as Matty has pointed out. There is a lot of buzz about Canon introducing an updated Rebel at PMA to bring it past the D70's level. It will probably be 8mp with digicII and same speed as 20D.

yeah thats what I did was dpreview.com but I just wanted to know what all of you thought of it form hands on experience or what you have heard from friend I am gonna go check them both out today.
