I'm planning on going riding tomorrow but i wanna start it off with a dock start. I've never done one before, any suggestions on it? The glass on the lake is just to tempting.

Just get slack in the rope while your standing on the dock, then when the ropes slack is almost gone, jump off into the water and lean back like aFramer said, just try it, it is not very hard.

I've never done it but it seems like the driver plays the bigger part in the dock start. Is this true? Other than what the other guys said thats about it for the rider. Its just kind of timing for him.

yeah you might not want to lean back too much the first time, if the driver doesnt know what hes doing, you could lean back and hit your head on the dock

Yeah just have the driver ease it up once the rope gets tension. Jump forward right before the rope gets tension and lean back. It's not hard. I think I got it second try.

me 3. I always dock start (sitting and standing) off of floating docks.

hardcore, when you get good at it, try doing it off of something higher. Ive seen guys do it off of roofs of docks.

just don't mess up because that's a pain in the rear to get it all set up again. No pressure...just do it perfect the first time!

Another note, most people are explaining "flying docks" which means you start standing up and you jump in.. which is explained better in any post above. However you might want to try a sitting dock start first so your driver can get used to when to punch it, because it will differ by boat and that way you will get pulled off regardless and you dont have to worry about hurting yourself.

To perform a sitting dock, just sit on the edge of the dock with your board perpendicular to the direction of boat travel (just like deep water), when the boat pulls you out you will be in a butterslide (boardslide if you prefer) and when the boat speeds up a bit more turn your hips so your lead leg is in front.

Get the feel of those and make sure your DRIVER is comfortable also because a lot relies on them, and then go for the flying dock.

I would do a few sitting dockstarts first so you get used to having to lean back a little although it can be difficult depending on how tall your dock is. I remember trying to do a sitting dockstart on holiday where the platform was about 2 inches above the water. Good times.

Once youve got sitting dockstarts down a jumping one shouldnt be much of a problem. Then you can start learning 180 dockstarts or dock to fakie Laughing Wink

dock starts are super easy. the first time i did it i was nervous, but it was really easy. the driver does play a big role just jump as soon as the line is tight and thats when the driver goes. if your still nervpus try it sittning first.
