|
|
Hi all,
I am new to wakeboards and wakeboarding, the marine dealership where I work is going to carry O'Brien equipment (wakeboards, skis, gloves, ect.).
I get to order the stuff we will sell. Any suggestions for stuff that I should get, especially stuff for newbs like me? Anyone have any preferences for gloves, skis, ropes, boards, ect.? I just thought that if anyone would know what equipment would be good to cary someone on here would...
My girlfriend and I will probably start boarding ourselves next spring but as of yet all I have done is skiing and skurfing. I hope to learn as much as possible before I get on a board. Appreciate any info.
Sorry if this is the wrong forum for the questions about preferences, but I am a newb. |

Welcome to the site. O'brien makes some good stuff. I would recommend either a player or a vision as far as a board. I have never ridden any of there bindings so I can't help there. And DON'T buy gloves
Is O'brien the only brand you will carry? _________________ Does this rag smell like chloroform?

intotheflats, He's selling to skiers too.
Get like 2 pair in each size of gloves...and don't sell them to wakeboarders. I currenlty am not familiar enough w/ O'brien to help you out w/ any of the other stuff though. |

No, I'll have some CWB stuff too, mostly O'Brien though. I like the vision and the player but I was thinking more of entry level stuff to sell, like the myth and ambush (been doin' some research).
I read a really good review of the valhalla, I might try to cary a few of the more advanced boards if people seem to want them. (I think most people who want some serious equipment will get it at a pro shop, not from us, even if I did have better prices.)
We pretty much sell boats, but I'm gonna see what I can do with water sports.
Which types of bindings do you guys use, front or back lace? Pros and Cons?

Why no gloves for wakeboarding?
Intotheflats, I'm asking for myself and so I can know what to sell. Should I personally start out with a beginner board and work up to something else? Are there different kinds of boarding or are most people into air and inverts? |

Hi Boardseller
Wakeboarders DONT wear gloves, its an unwritten rule, probably to do with the fact that swervers (skiers) wear them. I wouldnt recommend o'brien bindings ive seen too manyof them break. Laces is about preference and support, i've gone for no laces because i want little movement and lots of support, but theycan hurt. I've have Liquid Force Ultra's. Is obrien the only brand you can stock, if you went for a more dedicated wb company like double up, liquid force, hyperlite, etc. i reckon you would have more luck attracting custom.
When it come to boards, there aren't beginner boards as such just less aggressive boards, this some times comes in the form of a continuos rocker, but it is all down to preference, as you have the oppurtunity, test as many boards as you can b4 u buy, i mean some one has to make sure the new stock works...
Good Luck, if you want more info try www.wakeworld.com |

| Just get some good handles to sell too, and the wakeboarders will buy the good handle instead of the gloves. |

BoardSeller, It is really hard to say what you should carry cause I don't know your market. In my area, stocking high end gear is worthless cause everybody is just learning and don't want to spend $500 on a board and bindings. To start out with, I would get a bunch of packages, board with bindings in the $250-$400 range. And mix it up, get some O'brien and some CWB
You will know pretty fast if you have the market for the high end gear. And just because you don't have it doesn't mean you can't get it. If a customer wants a better board than you have in stock, order one for him and eat the shipping charge. It will show good customer service and when he wants another board, he will come back. _________________ Does this rag smell like chloroform?

I think he means don't try to sell them to boarders..beginner boarders that are just watersport junkees wont care, but some of the not soo new boarders may have a perference. Maybe they won't like the shop so much as it feels inexperienced in their area, etc. etc. just kinda a foolish notion if they really care about the gloves so much, that they get turned away from shop, but I understand the inexperience. _________________ Keep Austin Weird |

Board Seller I believe any of those 4 boards would work alright for a beginner, just a bit more agressive boards in the player, and the vision, but would still work, and you would grow into it. And not need a new board for a while. Also that you are correct about the experienced/intense boarders would probably head to a pro shop just for the more extensive amount of products and variety. _________________ Keep Austin Weird |

Thanks for the info guys. I've placed my order, now all I have to do is wait for it to warm up enough to try out some stuff. Found out that I get some nice discounts on last years stuff! I guess all my other questions will be answered on the water |
