I have a 97 supersport and I am trying to remove the driveline, but I'm not having much luck. It has a v-drive so that might make a difference. Does anyone have any ideas or tricks to removing this.

Thanks

well get ready! when you say drive line do you mean the shaft or the v-drive. if its the shaft you'll need a shaft puller some misc. hand tools and some patients. if you have never done before and have insurance on your boat....make a claim. trust me. a shaft r&r is no fun on a v-drive. the alignment is the hardest and most crutial part of the job. i can explain further on the phone. 903-882-8593 jason at swcc. it would take me a day and a half to type out the steps of this job.

First off, it is the shaft not the actualy v-drive. Well I'm not for sure if it is bent or not, so I might not have to remove it. Is there any easy way to check the shaft to see if it is bent and does need replacing?

Spin the shaft and see if it looks like it's wobbling or not. Any side to side motion would indicate a bend. How much it's wobbling is the big question. I believe a very small amount of wobble is acceptable. But, I'm not sure if tolerances are different on a V-Drive compared to a Direct Drive.

to check the shaft you need a dial indicater. if the shaft has more than.003 run-out the vibration could cause MAJOR damage. how bad was the prop? did you put on another one and did it still vibrate? is the strut (peice off of hull holding shaft) bent? i would run it by a marine shop and get an estimate and think about an insurance claim. i hope for your sake that its just the prop. if you need parts let me know. we should have all in stock. good luck!

direct drive and v-drive share same tolerances. you can tell sometimes by sight....if they are super bent. also dont go by the "how hard is it to spin" trick. that could be from a dry strut bearing or bad allignment. allignment has a .003 tolerance also. so be very careful on your diagnosis. jason @ swcc 903-882-8593

Jason, my D-Drive has had a little wobble in the shaft ever since we bought it (used). We didn't do anything about it because there were never any vibration issues. It's been five years now and I'm assuming it won't cause any problems in the future. Would you agree?

When looking at the shaft between the transmission and where it exits the hull.

it looks like you punched the strut or the shaft infront of the strut. here at swcc we straighten them (strut) when they are bent like this. we have a 4x4 thats about 4' long and do the "midevil door opener" with it. swinging it to and fro making contact with the strut till straighted. is the shaft bent infront of the strut? man that boat has a flat bottom. what kind of boat is that? if you have insurance save your sanity and make a claim. reason being if you dont know the tricks of the trade you can create other problems down the road.

OUCH!! did you pinch a plug out on the seat when you made contact? just kiddin'. ok. is the shaft bent? if so remove the shaft. straighten the strut. pre-align the strut to the shaft log (where it goes through the hull). using the old shaft minuplate the strut with the old shaft till straight then stab new shaft. align the coupler to tranny, load up and test. if you have any viberations it could be in your alignment or prop. good luck!
