The fragile male

The Y chromosome has fallen on some tough times

In the 50 years since DNA was shown to be a spiral staircase of interlocking chemicals that determine what we're made of, manhood has been tumbling down it. The Y chromosome, which derails 4-week-old embryos from their default female status onto the rocky path of maleness, is starting to look like a genetic reprobate.

A recent article in the British Medical Journal referred to the Y chromosome as "a biological injury," but cautioned against concluding that "maleness is a genetic disorder." And in a new book, "Y, The Descent of Men," British scientist and writer Steve Jones tells us "biology proves that man, and not woman, is the second sex."

It's been only 100 years since the discovery of the Y chromosome, and the science of masculinity is still coalescing. But this much seems clear: Physiologically, men are the weaker sex, and the demystification of the Y chromosome is a flaming arrow that's deflating the heart of male hubris. "The Y chromosome in general has been on the road to oblivion," explains Chung-I Wu, chairman of the department of Ecology and Evolution at the University of Chicago. "It's on an inexorable trend toward degeneration."

We ladies knew this all along....just like Momma warned us !

Yeah, well at least males know how to put words in their correct order in a sentence! (see: "just like warned us Momma!")

Those are some big claims to make with no evidence. How are men the physiologically weaker of the sexes? Statistics show that men die on average about 6 years before women due to their larger musculature. Get on it!

Phantom

You obviously have too much spare time on your hands, girl.

You should get a hobby - try knitting.

What are you doing out of the kitchen anyway ?

With the amount of grief that women give us, it's hardly suprising that we die sooner.

All this proves it that "Da Man" (read Woman) is just tryin' to put us down. My brothas, we need to rise up and bitch smack "Da Man" and take back what is rightfully ours.... Power to the people!

Oowww... Sorry Beth, ooww.... I'll quit, oowww... talking, oowww... now, owwww...owww...

The worst thing that ever happened in the UK was letting women vote.

It all started when some woman threw herself under a horse (Emily Pankhurst??). The guys said "for god's sake let them vote, it'll shut them up & we can watch our horse racing in peace".

I think all men learnt a valuable lesson that day.

Next time women ask for equal rights/pay - send them some flowers - works every time with my wife.

Pedro, I though the worst thing that ever happened to the UK was Margaret Thatcher!

Phantom, I though that was funny though. Cant you guys take some humor? The whole defensive act plays against the species.

Cheers,

Nice one Phantom! I especially like:

"which derails 4-week-old embryos from their default female status "

A Default status - default being the lowest common denominator?

You are quite correct in some ways. Women's bodies are designed to lift and carry better than men's bodies. Nature's way of helping out the baby carriers.

Men's bodies burn at a faster rate - physically more mature earlier and larger bulk of muscles. Again, nature's way of getting the hunter ready for his job.

As to the dying younger? Yes, it used to be quite true. Especially with the stay at home mom's. Now, women are getting bitchier due to the fact they have to work for a living. I'd like to see death stats in about 20 years. It's about time women had to put up with the stress of work that men have traditionally shielded them from.

All in all though: Vive la Difference! I wouldn't have women any other way Wink
