I know this is an old thread, but I still haven't seen any pics of the new VLX's wake...

I just took one for a demo, but forgot a rope (doh!)
I'd like to hear comments from people who have ridden it, how does it compare, how much weight are you running, etc...?

Here's a pic I got of the wake with stock ballast anyway -looked nice, but hard to really tell without riding)

MALIBU’S FLAG SHIP WAKEBOARD BOAT IS WAVING A NEW LOOK FOR 2005

(Merced, CA) – The wakeboard boat that started it all, Malibu’s Wakesetter VLX, has lunged forward in the industry from a lethal riding tool to legendary status in 2005. With a completely redesigned hull and deck the Wakesetter VLX now measures a full 21’ 6” from bow to transom with a beam of 98”. Not only does this increased size and new design equate to greater creature comfort inside the boat, it also gives the Wakesetter VLX a larger, newly shaped footprint in the water for a phenomenal wake.

The new interior space allows for more ballast options. The Wakesetter VLX comes standard with two rear 200-pound tanks now concealed beneath the floor and a center ski locker tank that swells to 500 pounds. A 300-pound bow ballast tank is also available in the VLX this year. With so much ballast to keep track of, Malibu is introducing an in-dash Ballast Monitoring System to allow riders to fine tune the placement of weight in each area of the boat. If riders are looking for more weight and wake shape than a 1250-pound ballast system can provide, deploy the standard wake-building wedge and tack on the equivalent of an additional 1000 lbs of down-force. Riders will experience this seismic versatile wake behind the new Titan Series III tower which can be upgraded to an Illusion X or a CFT Blade tower as an option.

Even with a boat load of wake sport features, the Wakesetter VLX still manages to wrap passengers in luxury and endless interior amenities. The new interior design shoots panels of customizable accent colors through the 38oz G&T Vinyl upholstery. The new comforting vinyl graphics are partnered with plush durable nylon carpeting to pamper passengers completely. The helm area features hand-wrapped driver and passenger dashes available in two standard two-tone color combinations. Utilizing the optional Sport Shroud package dash colors can be customized for a high performance look. This year the Wakesetter Series dash has been accented with a chromed billet aluminum gauge panel which gives the Wakesetter VLX more “Bling, Bling” than ever. For additional driver comfort and versatility Malibu has made the Flip-Up bolster seat standard in the Wakesetter VLX. This new interior does not miss a beat.

A 320 horse power, fuel injected engine pushes the Wakesetter VLX to greatness. Together with Malibu’s true-tracking Gorilla Fins and Instantaneous Response Technology (IRT) the VLX handles as well as it rides.

The lines of 2005 Wakesetter VLX frame a window into the digital world from which it originated. Each curve and straight edge exudes a level of accuracy that Malibu Boats is known for. A slice of colored gel coat panels are standard above the rubrail, while the hull’s graphic design sports Malibu’s new signature swoosh introduced on 23-foot models in 2004. Malibu boat buyers can choose from twenty distinctive gel coat pigments and two unique color compositions to create a totally custom Wakesetter VLX.

The new 2005 Wakesetter VLX makes a statement of water sports performance, luxury and individuality and it joins sixteen other Malibu boats as a 2005 model.

flukdfilms: Yeah, definitely a VERY nice boat, loved the interior, tons of room, drove nice, etc...

Anyone know how they ride in rough water? Will it be descent in a larger lake?
And most importantly, how does the wake compare to last years VLX?

I've ridden behind the 2005, it was similar in shape to the previous VLX wake maybe a little less peaky. It was rough at the end of the day and the boat was ridiculously smooth through chop. The increased size & interior is definately noticeable. Definately my first choice when it comes to new boats.

one thing that i wish other boat comapanies would catch onto is the collapseable pylon. i've never been a fan of having one, so when you acctuly want to wake surf or you have a skier its there.

well for saloam skiing the skiier wants to be as low as possiable to the water to make a harder turn. it's a little harder when the rope is up a bit higher. also when they hit the wake if they don't asorb proberly they would be bounced a few more inches which could cause them to nose dive.

when it's up it could be a little bit of an inconvenicen. i mean you can move as fast aroudn the centerof the boat. could stub a toe fi not paying attention. so when you want to ski or wake surf. you just do it from the pylon.

well putting a tube on a tower, with the weight and all the extra drag it woudln't be good. well you might be able to doit. i woudln't try. it doesn't really hurt a normal skiier. but the tower was there to not pull the boarder to the water, making it easier to get out of the water for jumps and such also. so when a skiier uses it, it is kinda of saying "i wanna jump". so you definalty could, but if you ahve the ski pylon, why not use it.

I'd rather surf when the water is choppy. Much better use of the awesome power and wake of these machines.

wow he's getting big air for having no wake and going 2mph?

What are the specs for the new VLX (never mind just read the above post), I heard the wake is more like the 04 LSV or whatever model that is? Any truth to that?

He's doing a dockstart. The reason there's no wake is because the boat is just taking off.

This picture is from the new '05 Malibu boats brochure.

WhirlyBird5: We were going 21.5-22mph (or atleast that's what PP said)
It did feel a little slow driving, so it could be out of calibration...

I really wish I could have ridden that day, it would have answered a LOT of questions I have. It's hard to tell by just looking what it would be like at a specific rope length, etc...

Maybe I can get out this weekend for another demo WITH my rope and some extra sacs Mr. Green

burky, how does that malibu tower fold? it just doesn't look obivous to me. and i thought the FCT on the nautiques would fold down pretty easy.

Well I think that the smooth sides rest on the windshield then the front pointy part is a bit in front of the windshield so its not scratching or poking anything.
