Correct Craft.....880..........798

Interesting, I though Malibu and Mastercraft were in the 2000 boat range.
Congrats to Moomba, they've really increased!!
So those are boats sold or produced?

The only accurate measure is boats registered. Boats sold is a figure that
comes from the Manufacture and is subject to shall we say inflation plus many of those boats could be sitting on dealers floors.
The 3rd quater YTD numbers that I have for 2003 are vastly different than yours
MAlibu 2234
MAsterCraft 2179
Correct Craft 1281
Supra & Moomba 1259
Centurion 852
Etc
Even with the difference in our numbers the trends are the same. It should be the big 2 then the Medium size 3 or 4 and the rest are tiny

That's not quite accurate, in my opinion. That does not take into account boats that came from another state - in which case, the boat is not necessarily new, nor does it factor in boats that are not registered because they're only used on a private lake - in which case, registration is not required.
Where did those figures come from?

It just shows that the industry is growing. It would be nice to see the individual breakdown by models, or vdrive to ddrive #s. In fact, every company showed growth except for mastercraft.
I think you will see that companies offering boats that offer more value at substantially less money will continue to see more sales and grow faster.
I have been into boating almost all my life and have been a diehard nautique guy and wont probably own anything else. But, there is a lot of new people getting into the sport with open minds and they wont have the brand loyalty and have to own a nautique or mastercraft and might see these value price boats as great alternatives.
You can also see why boat prices are so high. Its like producing a limited production vehicle. On the other hand, runabouts with an i/o can be made on greater scale allowing for prices that will be able to reach more consumers.

I could see a TINY fraction of boats that are not registered because of a private lake but that number would be VERY small. When a boat is purchased out of state it is still registered in the home state. So I would not agree at all with your conclusion.
Boating laws are stat by state. Many state still require boats to be registered even on a private lake. If you chose not to register a boat that was used on a private lake that would mean that you could never take your boat anywhere else. Again this number is VERY LOW

Wow! i had no idea Malibu were producing so many more boats! is this due to their production facility in Austtralia do you think?

4. Ranger...........3150
5. Chaparral.......2979
14. Sea doo........1725
16. Malibu...........1643
20. Mastercraft....1315

That's true, but it has to be registered in the state that it moves to. If it's 2003 and I buy a 1996 Malibu in Texas, I have to register it in Colorado. It's not a new boat, so how does it factor into your figure for 2003 Malibus?
Is someone sifting through boat registrations in every state and breaking them down by make, model and year? That's certainly possible, but there's still the matter of non-registered boats. If your numbers are "more accurate" shouldn't they be smaller than the numbers posted by intotheflats, even by less than 100 or so?

It isn't boats registered, its new boats sold. If I buy a 97 malibu, it doesn't effect these #'s. It is 2004 models sold.

Here's the table with growth % added.
Sanger say they produce 400 boats a year to keep quality high, I wonder what they do with the other 200 boats?

| When they are talking about boats registered they are talking about new 2004 model year boats. You are right if they counted boats with no regarded to model year or if they are new then the numbers would be useless for this discussion. However the facts are they count registrations of new boats for the model year.

I dunno? Maybe they'll give me a surplus V210 or V215?

| OK, I'll grant you that, but that means that the "registered" number should be smaller than the "units sold" number.

Yes that is correct
I don't know the source for your numbers and
I have no idea why the difference between you numbres and mine.
What is interesting is the % of growth and trends are very similar

Again the numbers are units sold not registered. once the boat leaves the dealer, whether it is registered or not has no effect on the dealer. We sell boats where I work and I can tell you exactly how many boats we have sold but I have no idea how many people registered them.

The only truly accurate count is what I have seen from my porch. These are the figures I have for 2004:
Mastercraft: 1
Malibu: 2
Tige: 1
Crappy No-Name I/O: 1
I don't know if any of these have been registered anywhere.

Um??? So unlike cars dealers do not take those steps?
My boat was ready to rock out of the box. If I remember correctly the dealer took care of all our DMV papers and applied CF's before we took delivery.

Depends on the dealer. About half of the boat dealer around me will register for you. Others just drop it in the water and say thanks. We sell small inflatables which do need to be registered but we don't do it here so we have to direct the customer to someone who does.

I hinted around in my other post and it did not work.
So I will come out and ask what is the source of your numbers.
NMMA, info link, a Manufacture??
Nor Cal you are correct dealers generally do all the paper work the boats sold out of state it is the buyers responsibility to pay the taxes and register the boat

The source of these #'s is a magazine called trade soundings. It is a trade only magazine meaning unless you are in the boating industry, you can't even get this magazine. It is essentially a dealer only magazine

FWIW,
Those numbers are from Statistical Surveys....which reports retail registrations from each state. The numbers are through June 04 and include most key states with some not reporting. They usually lag about 3 months behind ....as it take that long to get all the info. Hope that helps and Thanks to all of you for helping grow the industry, our segment (Wakeboarding)is very fortunate.

but if it ends at june i think alot of people wait till aug. sept. and oct. to by boats so they get a good price i bet there would be a noticable difference in numbers!!!!

Here is an angle that has not been raised.
I wondering if those numbers are total boats sold per manufacture or total boats sold in the United States per manufacture.
If those numbers are only for the USA then those sales numbers may be drastically different.
I dont know just something to think about

| Those number can't be accurate. Correct Craft has capacity to produce somewhere between 1600-2000 boats in a year and they were completely sold out in the 04 model year. However, I would tend to believe the ranking of mfgs is correct based on their capacities....

The trends are right for sure but the numbers are from a survey not actual units sold or registrations.
Yes someone is going through the registrations and I assume those are us numbers.
