So I have a boat that has been partially submerged. I'm trying to get the engine started. I have drained the oil, pulled the plugs, wd40'd the cylinders, then tested the sparkplugs to see if we were getting a spark. We are not getting any kind of spark. Where would I even start to see what the problem is.

It is a 97 supersport with a EFI, PCM 351 in it. so it is fuel injected.

might have fried the ecm, that's a pretty penny

does it turn over?

check the main fuse on the engine block (usually a red button). if it got submerged it probably shorted out

edit. are you sure you are not getting a spark, did you try this in the dark, if you did it during the day, you wouldn't be able to see the spark, are the plugs new?

I did test it at night. today I tested the spark plugs on a plug tester, and they weren't working. So I bought new plugs and still wasn't getting a sprark

check the fuse, although it wouldn't turn over with the fuse blown

honestly, if its turning over fine, its efi, and its not getting spark, the first place i'd think is the ecm

have to opened the ecm up to look in, sometimes when submerged they can fill up with water but never drain and dry, i'd pull it and have a look inside.

Hey, I'm polkaking27's partner in the boat. We tested the spark plugs on a tester, appears the tester was actually bad. However, I've worked my way back to the distributor, rotor, and jumped the fuse on the engine block, and nothing seems to work. I opened the ifi and it was completely dry, but did have a little bit of black soot iin it. So I guess I need a new one. Is ther any place that can hook up a tester to check if the box is bad or not? Also, since it is a Ford motor, and the efi says ford on it, can you pick these up at the local ford dealer, or do they need to be marine? Thanks for all the help.
