what is the deal with the new 2005 hyperlite wakeskates that have a "truck" on the bottom. i dont get this and they look incredibly weird. i can see how it would make the board more stable but how would this be good for lipslides, sliders, etc. somebody fill me in cause these looks real weird.

Jester, they are for locking in to noseslides and tailslides, but look completely impractical for normal riding.

The Headless Chicken, other than the board shape being exactly replicated by LF and 484, who else tried to make a noseslide dealy?

EDIT: Kampus' grinding fin thing is kind of a copy of the idea, but I would say that it's an improvement. I can't say that for hype's new "truck"

ya thats what i was talking about. have you ridden both the kampus fin and the hyperlite truck. if not how can you say that one is better then the other.

bluefish86, haha i agree it looks like a carrying handle.

the idea looks real stupid tho, and yea i dont think it would work well at all for regular riding like i said before lipslides and sliders and stuff. if this is supposed to be like the 4 track then why does it seem like the "truck" is right in the center of the board? it looks like it is curved on the side u would noseslide with anyway.

ive seen those kampus fins that you can buy that are supposed to be good for noseslides. one of my friends made custom holes, got some of those, and put them on one of his old 484s. he said he could nosepress but noseslides were brutal on the board and ripped the fins out. those at least seem like a lot better idea then this thing.

i dont think anybody will buy this board, but then again i hope somebody does so i can hear what its like, probably pretty bad.

wow a bunch of negative nancys on this board. its hard to make predictions on how it will effect "normal" riding. the shape looks pretty hydrodynamic and no worse than the fins on the 4-trac. this accesory comes on all high end hype skates. and the pictures is a bad angle and its on the gate search around the internet and youll se some other pics of it.

I have ridden the kampus one, but not the hyperlite one. And I probably never will. But that's like saying that if hyperlite screwed goat testicles to a catalyst and said it would give it more pop, that I couldn't say that it wouldn't work.

I don't think anybody should complain about any board unless they ride it.che blanc how can you say it probably sucks if you haven't rode it you should at least try something once before saying it sucks.

Please do not put words in my mouth. I never once said it sucked, all I said was that I thought it looked impractical for normal riding and that it was an attempt to copy the 4-trac.

you're comparing it to goat testicles. how much suckier can it get. i dont think that comparison realtes in any way to the truck. of course goat testicles wont give you more pop! they are for holding onto when you try flips. Laughing but seriously thats an absurd comparison you already stated that the truck is made to help lock in on certain tricks but its just impractical for everyday riding. i dont see how its any more impractical then the 4-trac fin setup. i think this is an improvement and may lead to different styles of grinds that were impossible even on the four trac. also what your saying is contradictory. its okay for kampus to copy the idea but hyperlite cant do it? im getting sick of this whole "they are copying those other guys attitude" I understand that stealing sucks but i think if you take a product and make it better or change it in some way its a good thing. if it werent for that attitude we'd be riding directoinal wakeskates.

A-sym isnt directional Cool i think we're just gonna have to agree to disagree on this one but i still want to see it in action or read a review before i pass judgement.

flukdfilms, neither are fins, concave, second levels, channels etc. but they are minor alterations that change and hopefully improve the ride of the board in one way or another. i think it helps to understand its purpose if you come from a skating background.

Any trick that can be landed on a wakeskate, can be landed on any wakeskate. I will leave it at that

Then what is the difference between A-sym and directional?

che blanc, by directional meant surfboard shaped rather than having different characteristics on each end which would apply for both directional and a-sym boards. Unlike the four trac i think the truck will eventually allow smiths and feebles also it would make 50-50s(when they put two trucks on a board) to be ridden more like true 50-50s. little things like that.

The Headless Chicken, actually i think that would be pretty sweet to have the feel of a skateboard on a wakeskate 5050. but how would you do a smith? it doesnt seem like you could lock in because the truck is flat on the bottom (unlike a skateboard truck havin wheels)

WakeKid07, depending on the size of pvc and if you spaced it right you could wedge the truck in there to do a smith. its hard to predict what you can do with it from two pictures but it seems like it might be possible.

oh i see what you are saying now. if you put the corner of the truck in between two pvcs then it would lock in and tilt into a smith. i was thinking more of skating where the wheels lock you in i forgot about the crack in between PVC.

you mean kind of like this??

at first i thought the truck looked really retarded but now that i think about it sounds pretty cool.

The Headless Chicken, im not sure where the truck is located on the board but if it is towards one end (which im guessing it is) then it would be pretty hard to 5050. but what i think would be really cool is if they made a skate like this with two of these trucks (one towards each tip) then you would get a skateboard type feel on sliders, like an elevated 5050. i don tknow i think this would be cool. and smiths on a wakeskate?? dont know if its possible but this thing could be bringing more new tricks out and about.

WakeKid07, ya something like that. isnt it cool when your open to new ideas. ya its only on one end right now but so was the four trac and they changed that. smiths might require a little alteration and development of the truck but seem possible.

i talked to my friend who said he made his own version of the 4 trac with some old fins and was doing nosepresses and stuff like that which sounds pretty cool. he wants to try out the new truck. he also said that on wakeskating.com everyone was being pretty unopen about it and saying that it was stupid and just trying to copy the 4 track even tho it is much different. yea its pretty sweet to be openminded and think of all of the variations that could happen with something like this. i think it would be really cool to have two trucks like i mentioned earlier to be able to feel like your elevated on a skateboard. this would make boardslides and lipslides on sliders a lot more technical too.

smlparksguy133, why do you say cassette all the way? it is a totally different design than cassettes 4 track and doesnt even use fins. you cant smith on a cassette which might be possible on this. i think its a crazy idea that could turn into something sweet, so why rule it out without even trying it? IMO it sounds like you just want to represent too much and dont let yourself be open to ideas.

Agreed.
But I can understand that considering he might want to be like everyone else who says "Hyperlite Skates suck".
I think it's pretty cool idea, even if it is like the 4-trac a little bit, I think more people will be open to opinions once someone rides it though...

Davo.FSF, IMO it seems like most people who ride cassette are stubborn and dont seem to like anything besides cassette. it may be somewhat liket he 4 trac, but how could you compare or so they copied when its two competely different designs. at first i thought it looked really stupid but now i have thought about it being pretty tight. maybe people will change their minds once somebody reviews it like u said.

One reason I heard was because they are too light and they don't last. And some people do think that and can back it up but some others just say it because the better wakeskaters are saying it. If it's backed up, it can be understood better, but If it's straight up said that they suck, they probably don't have reasons. I have no problem with them though, but I'm not doing w2w and kickflips and any of those big tricks.

The reason I say "cassettes all the way" is because I have a cassette and I love it. And I know this will be asked so Ill answer in advance. I have ridden other skates. I like cassettes the best though I am looking into the Kampus K39 I just dont like the skates that hyperlite makes and some people do.

Thats Fine.

I think this would be a cool idea for people who use sliders a lot. I do not. I have never hit a slider in my life so for me this board would be useless. Like others have said, how would you lipslide? Its just not a board for me. Sorry I rejected it but I just dont think it suits me. I am interested to hear how it rides by somebody who has ridden it because It seems like a great concept for rails.

Just not riding.

Many previously complained the HL skates were too light. They've added more weight to them for 2005, I think people will probably like them more.

it would be cool, but really hard to stay on it, unlike a skateboard truck theres no way to lock in, if you slipped out youd get nuetered
