Hey andy,

Yes, but you'll need to do some structural glass work....

Yes, it's possible.

Unless you have a full in drive, it's not desirable.

Unless you want to just go in a straight line and never turn.

Are you asking about tracking fins or the skeg on the bottom of an I/O outdrive? If it is the latter, the answer is yes, they are aluminum and cost around $100 US.

Hey andy mogg,
I'd have a word with the boat's builder/designer to see why they didn't (oh yeah, what boat is it, I assumed an inboard ski/wakeboat) - mine doesn't have them either....

On the outside you'd need to provide a flat surface for the fin/skeg to fit to and on the inside provide a flat spot for backing plates...you'd need to get them on there straight, etc. or else Shocked , but yeah, it's doable - hey we used to cut the stern off big sportfish and add additional cockpit space - like about 6 feet requiring repowering, etc. etc. so sticking on a couple of tracking fins is not a deal - I'd be concerned about overall handling qualities???

If you're talking about a Maristar, I don't think you should add fins. I checked out some pictures of the X-10 and X-30, which are X versions of the Maristar 210VRS and 230VRS, respectively, and did not see any fins. The fact that Mastercraft did not add them tells me that either they are not needed or that the design does not allow it. I'm guessing that it's probably a little of both.

For one thing, the addition would require a modification to the hull mold, creating a flat spot on which to mount the fins. The other thing is that the deeper deadrise and full-length strakes probably provide sufficient tracking stability.

Hey salmon,

I agree...my boat at almost 25' does not exactly turn with the 19 footers but it's still just fine....and I certainly don't pull the stern around significantly when I cut out...for me, mine's staying as designed.

a maristar doesn,t turn like a comp skiboat but they are almost 23ft most 23ft boats don,t turn like a 190 prostar..maristars have deeper v shaped hulls
i guess that is the reason they don,t need tracking fins.

Hey riverside,

My Maristar is 24'10", no fins...

Huge boat, someday will have a huge amount of ballast...

aFramer,

I'm about 90% certain that they don't have fins. I looked at a bunch of on-trailer pics where I think I should have been able to see fins, had there been any. Plus, there are no fins on the Design-a-boat thing at Mastercraft's website.

I have a maristar 22.5" no fins..turns fine. you definitely couldn't pull these big ol malo chicos off course while cutting (which is one reason for them, keeps the boat steady in the water while pulling someone) and I do not think that you need much better handling than what they have already. but maybe you have a different set of needs of your boats than I do

you should add them right in front of the prop, with some double-sided foam sticky tape. be sure to punch the throttle when you first put in the water! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Nope the Maristars don't have fins!! 100% sure. They have a deeper hull that runs all the way to the back of the boat making them unnecessary. The Maristars 98 and newer have a deeper hull than 97 and older. The 97's are a little flatter on the bottom and don't handle and track quite as well as the new ones. They don't turn like a direct drive but they both have no problem holding any line if that's what your worried about.
