if you use a fence post digger do the ends of the 4x4 need to be sharp?

The only reason to make the ends sharp, would be if you're pile driving the boards into the ground

Since blockonut has a post hole digger - sharpening the ends will gain him nothing

And as mentioned. It's easier to plumb the posts from a flat bottom than a pointed bottom

we just sunk these in and put cynder blocks on it and bags of cement

what do you mean u put cinder blocks on it? So did you actually put the posts in the ground and also put cinder blocks in the ground hanging down from the rail?

i think he took the bottom part that goes into the ground and attached a piece of plywood to the bottem sunk it and put the cynder blocks and bags of cement on top of the ply wood

how would it be sturdy enough if the post are not sunk just sitting on bottom with weigh on it

Yeah, countersink the trex a bit then throw in some screws... works like a charm, although watch out for the screw heads popping up - they tend to do that once in a while...
