Yesterday I went out and rode for an hour and then I went for a 360. I started my spin way too early got off axis a little and let go of the rope, as I landed in the flats I was still spinning and I landed really awkward. I felt like I broke my ankle, I couldn't get my bindings off so I had to sit on the platform and douse my foot and binding with slime to get it off without hurting like hell. I have doctors appointment tomorrow to see if its broke or not. I figure it is just sprained but when I try to move my ankle the pain is excrutiating.
I have never heard of anyone breaking thier ankle wakeboarding or maybe my bindings just suck. I ride th '04 Temets, I'm pretty sure I had them on as tight as they would go but sometimes the boa cable system will pop off and let loose. So my bindings may have been loose when I hit and caused my ankle to twist. _________________ Crazy JD Productions

I did almost the same thing, although I was just doing a shiftie and landed hard with my body still twisting. My foot came out of my binding partially ('03 Highbacks), and it was starting to hurt quite a bit. My buddies got me out of the water and slimed my binding to get it off my foot. And when I went to the doctor 4 days later, he said I had a high ankle sprain with a break. My tibia (leg bone) was broken near the bottom where it attaches to my foot. See attached picture (I darkened the line where the break is).
So I'm walking around for 3 weeks in a moon boot until my next appt.
I'm thinking looser bindings mave be a better option so your foot can move a little easier on really hard falls.

I haven't actually hurt my ankle while wakeboarding, but at the beginning of the summer I sprained my ankle really badly playing basketball. I have had trouble ever since with recurring pain and stiffness. I cannot bend my foot upwards like it used to, and it has been 5 months, so it makes it really difficult when riding switch. When I ride switch (which I am still trying to perfect) I cannot put the heel of my back foot all the way down because of that stiffness, I end up riding on my toes the whole time.
The moral of the story is, work that stiffness out by streching and exercise as soon as your doctor says it is ok. Ankle injuries take a loooong time to heal completely. Sometimes they are never the same. |

| all i know is that it is not the bindings, because if you had your temets on snug, then they are awesome bindings |

On a houseboat trip last weekend my wife broke her tibia on a fall that didnt look bad at all.... but we circled around and she was in pain. Just ace bandaged it up and got a pair of crutches and she was is in busisness for the rest of the trip.
now she is off work for a couple weeks and hurts some times but no surgery for acl so she is happy. the tibia broke right where it meets the femur so the knee is like the size of a softball..... poor girl.... |

Well the doc says I have wear the moonboot for 2 more weeks to let the bone fully heal. Then I have to wait 2 months before I can do much running or other exercise that would be hard on my feet and ankles.
I'm thinking I can probably try wakeskating or surfing in a couple of week, and see how that goes. By next season, I should be ready to go back to where I was before the injury. _________________ So, I've got that goin' for me...which is nice! |

89 skier, NOOOO do NOT get looser bindings! Ankle support is what you want! You want bindings that you wont come out of on hard falls and that you have relativly no ankle movement at all. _________________ Crownsville Wakeboard Team |

roundbaywakeboard, My Highbacks are really tight, and my foot barely twisted inside of them....but obviously it was enough to sprain my ankle and fracture my bone.
I think if I would have come out of then on my fall, I wouldn't have sprained my ankle. Of course I was rotating when I fell and not faceplanting.
I've always heard, you want to either stay in both bindings or come out of both. It's when only one foot comes out, you increase the chances of the board twisting more and messing up your knees.
I used to ride 3060's and I didn't like how my toes come out the front on hard landings in the flat...I DID like how easily I ejected out of them on hard landings. _________________ So, I've got that goin' for me...which is nice! |

I broke my Tibia snowboarding a couple years ago...I really couldn't walk. I ended up sliding down the rest of the mountain like I was on a sled (on my board). I was soo pissed off I turned down help from the really hot girls offering it to me |

Daniel, I heard you just blew out your knee. That sucks man. Sorry to hear that.
I'm just know getting to where I can walk without my moonboot from my injury. We're going out on Friday and Sunday with Richard, Brad, maybe your brother and Heather, and the FedEx guy that delivered Richard's new Balance board today. _________________ So, I've got that goin' for me...which is nice! |

| The beauty of wakeboarding for me so far, is that bindings are like huge ankle braces. I have yet to sustain an ankle injury. I have LF Alphas and I cinch them down as tight as I can. I have faceplanted hard plenty of times and these bindings havent came off yet and so far thats good becuz if 1 foot comes out your screwed. Only bad thing is Im more suseptable to knee injury if bindings wont come off. I hyperextended my ACL over the summer maybe becuz of that but my ankles are weak so Im glad my alphas have so much support |

HEy, just yesterday it almost happened the same thing to me! i was doing a 360 and i landed weird, so my anle bent forward, i dont know how was that, and i think is was because of stuff bindings, my wakeboard is almost a toy wakeboard. I got pretty scared because my season is just starting down here, so i would die if i get hurt before the summer. _________________ Life's short, Go wakeboarding. |
