I have a cable modem currently but the provider is going to kick up the prices next month. I think I can get a better deal with DSL. Will I lose speed in this switch or is DSL faster? _________________ If I agreed with you we would both be wrong. |

Cable is faster so you will lose speed. I have test both and cable runs fast. Depends on the provide maybe.
Did you get both sets of pics?? _________________

DSL is usually more stable, and alot more secure then cable is. Basically DSL is just 1 line, just for you.
Cable on the other hand is dependant on how many people are using it, and your distance from the switching station, so if you live in a apartment complex with 100 people on your segment, its gonna be slower then having cable in your house with only a few neighbors using it. Cable on the whole is faster, but i use dsl personally, and its fast enough and i love the stability.
Also, the upload speed is differnt, for dsl its usually a 10:1 dl/ul ratio while cable is either 1:1 or 2:1 |

Actually DSL is much more sensitive to distance from the telephone company facility (called a Central Office, CO). The speed and reliability of DSL drops dramatically if you are more than about 10,000 feet from the CO. The cable modem performance will be dependent on the quality of the cable company's equipment, the age of the cable, and the number of users sharing the segment.
But in the end, your real performance bottleneck will probably be the providers connection from the CO to their backbone. In the past the lead time to get DSL installed was long and the cable companies were much more responsive. I'm not sure how it is now though. |
