| I am working on my surface 180's. I actually took the fins off just as an experiment and found my self doing them but they weren't pretty...I haven't tried it with the fins yet....I'm not sure what size my fins are but they are like 1" and the other is at least 1 1/2" or probably 2" so to keep the fins for my newbie purposes should I invest in some smaller fins or just go head first with no fins at all? |

do it with no fins, fins are just training wheels anyway. but if u feel to loose then get smaller fins _________________ Wake Forest University |

HyperZack, what kind of board do you have? Sometimes you'll have larger built-in fins that will help with the slide of the board and that will be good enough. If you're a fairly new rider and trying to learn surface a good way that I learned is by doing a butterslide on the wake. Its easy because if you do it right neither of the fins are touching the water and you wont get tripped up.
The board I learned this on was an old school hyperlite 143 with some HUGE fins. Both were at least 2 inches. So yeah, its possible. Just gotta remember the physics of the angles of the board. _________________ Back to back NBA champs. |

| My board is a 143 hyperlite vero so pretty similar one fin is quite large the other is smaller up until now I have only rode with the larger fin in the back and I am going to put the other small one on the front |

I was really scared the first time i rode with small fins. Once you get used to it you'll never switch back. Just don't beat yourself up. You'll fall alot the first few times...but its SO worth it afterwords. _________________ Back to back NBA champs. |

it doesent matter the fin size if you turn the board hard enough the fins will break loose and you can 180....but make sure you shift your weight to the back foot if you dont be ready to dive...and make sure you lean back while sliding too that will cause a painful fall if you dont. _________________ R.I.P. if you ride with out fins it will teach you to use your edge and not all depend on the fins
you start hitting sliders you should ride without fins or BAD things will happen _________________ www.Crawlinbc.com |

| i would say get smaller fins. cause in the long run they are way better and like someone said before once you try them you will never go back. unless your planning on getting a new board or something with built in fins then its a waste of money but if your planning on sticking with that board, since is doesnt have molded fins, then you might as well buy them now cause you will eventually want them when you get better anyways |
