Where exactly are you supposed to "rise up" or "stand tall", at the bottom of the wake,or at the top of the wake? I read alot of posts on here and it seems that some people say to stand tall at the bottom, and others at the top. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!! _________________ A bad day wakeboarding is better than a good month at work. |

Well you're talking about a split second difference between the top and bottom of the wake, but I try to edge hard thru the wake and stand tall as my board gets the pop off the wake.
If you stand tall too early or let off your edge, you'll loose the pop from the wake and you'll even loose your balance more often than not. _________________ So, I've got that goin' for me...which is nice! |

well I guess what i do is keep my knees bent through the progressive edge, and once I reach the bottom of the wake I begin to stand up and I'm completely standing up at the top. _________________ Liquid Force 2004 Evo 138 - Liquid Force Alpha 2005 |

standing tall is really just a way to make urself have stiff legs, if ur legs are stiff, don't worry a whole lot about it until ur ready to pop even higher _________________ Laugh hard, it's a long way to the bank... |

yeah, bleeding dead has it right.. as long as your legs are not giving to the wake, and they are holding up against the force of hitting the wake then you will be fine _________________ Keep Austin Weird |

| when you do the progressive edge keep your legs slightly bent and then get your speed up right before you hit the wake and then stand tall at the bottom of the wake and you'll get massive air. |

colt45, I disagree. If you stand tall coming to the bottom of the wake, then you're not edging thru the wake which is the key. You don't need to stand tall to get good pop, as long as you're not absorbing the pop with your knees and legs. _________________ So, I've got that goin' for me...which is nice! |

Yeah, I agree. I'm my experience, trying to stand tall too early can also throw you off balance. But what do I know, I'm still a beginner, that hasn't ridden in two months!!! It sucks. _________________ So, I've got that goin' for me...which is nice! |

I don't know how I really do it, I think the top, and with unforgiving legs that extend some as I hit the "sweet-spot" I guess. It is something that you also kinda have to lear for yourself, depending on the wake, your riding speed, your riding style, your board, and how hard you are cutting. Everything comes into play and it is something that you will learn to adjust to mentally to the point at where even on the first jump with new conditions and such your mind reacts quickly enough, just subconciously, to hit the wake, cut through and "stand tall" properly and get a good wake jump, or whatever you are going for. _________________ Keep Austin Weird |

I was once with a Darin shapiro in a clinic and he told me that jumping the wakes is not anything more than cruzing the wakes at high speed, this means to have a nice progressive edge EVEN WHEN YOU'RE RIDING UP THE WAKE (not flatten out) and HAVE STIFF LEGS, which you'll acomplish if you stand tall at the wake, that's what gives you huge air!!!

yeah..thats why people say edge through the wake. Standing tall is just maximizing pop off the wake, you are still edging, its just differnet body movement at the top of the wake _________________ Keep Austin Weird |
