ok,
i just found out that a new LSV is very reasonably priced and looks like a good boat. Let me know if this is a good boat to ride behind, and if the quality is worth spending the money on.
let me hear the positives and negatives about this boat. |

I would say yes. especially if you like, you should go with it. I have been in the old moombas and the new. They are like different boats. You must keep in mind that the quality of these boats are in a different category than CC and MC. I would say it is like comparing a nissan maxima to a BMW 5 series. Both do everything well, but one was pushed to the limits in excellent quality, and the other is very solid.
Many ppl will try to tell you that the moomba will not hold its value well. But, lets do a comparison. I can easily find a 4 year old CC SAN for 60% or less of its original purchase price (about $55K for about $33 or less). The moomba mobius, which was a lower quality than it is now, sold for about $34 and i have not seen one for under $20. so i would say depreciation is not a factor.
The moomba is solid, and the colors are alright. you are gonna find that they use less quality carpeting, stereo, vinyl, gauge cluster etc. But the wake, especially when weighted, is Very Very nice.
The other thing that is very nice about this boat is its versatility, if you have any skiiers, they will be very happy at slalom speeds with the ballasts empty.
Finally, to answer your question. In my opinon, for the size of the boat and the wake you can get, and everything else, i believe it is worth it. But if you dont need that much space - check out the malibu v-ride (40k out the door), gekko boats, and i have heard good things about sanger/calabria (not familiar with the prices though)
good luck man. _________________ Worrying is a lot like a rocking chair, its something to do...but it won't get you anywhere. |

I have a 2004 Mobius LS ( DD version of the LSV) and I am very happy with it. I run factory ballast which is a tank under the rear seat and a bag in the ski locker ( I believe 800 lbs). I also use a couple side sacs, the wake is very solid and gives a good kick. I would highly recomend the wake plate, it is very useful for cleaning up the wake.
You should realize this boat has a wide 95" beam. This is great for some one like myself who has a family and needs the room. The negative to this is a wider boat takes more weight to sink it down for a bigger wake.
A lot of newer wakeboard boats have a beam in the neighbourhood of 90" or 91" and then of course there is the Nautique 2001 hull with a 84" beam thus the ability to make a big wake with minimal weight. |

come on now portlandbrder, i would think that a 26 year old could put together a better post than that.
Stock ballast on a Mobius LSV is 900 pounds. 250 in each rear compartment, and 400 in the center locker. _________________ Brent B

Yes, it seems that beems are getting wider and manufacturers are advertising that. It seems that maybe wakeboats aren't just being made to throw a sick wake, they may be sacrificing a little wake to support the wakeboard lifestyle (hanging on the lake chillin) Which i deffinatly agree with! _________________ Brent B

I have an 03 lsv GG edition and ithink its a great boat. Upgraded the back tanks to 500's and threw in a smokin stereo, sub and tower speakers. I think the wake is awsome, its not as big as an xstar or SAN but its plenty big with a nice shape. The wakeplate is a nice feature to have. Id say the most important options are in this order.
320 EFI motor
Perfect Pass
3 bag ballast system
tandem axle trailer
stereo w/tower speakers
heaters
depth finder
stainless rub rail
I went with all of that stuff, and i love my boat. I admit the fit and finish is a bit better on some of the other boats like SAN or wakesetters however they also come with a 10k higher pricetag which in my opionon the nicer vinyl and carpet isnt worth the 10k. They have nice Indmar motors and drivetrains which is the important part.
Bottom line is if you like the looks of it, id say go for it. they are nice boats, not the "nicest" boats on the water but deffintly a great ride. Its really about comparison, everyone that rides in my boat thinks its the nicest in town. but thats being compared to a bunch of I/O boats.
Good luck on the decision |

However, alot of what you mention above are boats that are still built on the same hulls. Broccoli B was stating that the newer designed boats seem to being going with wider beams.
The new 05 Wakesetter VLX is a few inches wider 95" or 96" (I can't remember exactly how many).
The newly redesigned Tige's boats have wider hulls:
20 V 96"
22 V 102"
24V 102"
Mastercraft
05 XStar 100"
I am not saying that those boats you mentioned above are tried and true however it seems that manufacturers are trying to make boats with more room that still have awesome wakes.
I don't think anyone will deny that a SAN 210 produces an awesome wake but it is a bit cramped for room. |

| Did anyone actually understandPortlandBrder,'s comments. Also, a very good reason to buy a Moomba would be to piss of that guy that goes through all the Moomba threads and bashes them because his friend didn't like his Moomba. I am actually surprised he hasn't chirped in yet. |

steve-o,
Brocolli is the one to ask for sure. We've been hittin the boat pretty hard this summer and its held up great. It very spacious in my eyes. Its got plenty of power. The wake is great as far as I'm concerned but I haven't had the chance to get on a SAN or MC. All in all I love the '04 LSV but if a SAN came along only a couple years older I might be inclined to go with that. All depends on which way the wind is blowing _________________ Back to back NBA champs. |

Steve-O... I am also considering the LSV. Have you looked into pricing yet? I've been on there web site and everything is in USD and they say it is just an approx. price. I would be interested to know what kind of price you got quoted in CAD. Have been to visit the marina yet? What options are you considering? _________________ KEEP ON KEEPIN IT ON! |

boardstiff,
i went out to Muskoka Lakes Marine this past weekend. THey didn't have any LSV's but they did have the LS (same hull just a DD). I was pretty impressed. the wake seemed pretty nice and the wakeplate was interesting in changing the shape of the wake. I could imagine the V drive version would put out a bigger wake then what i saw. They marine quoted me $40 000. on a stock LSV, which i believe is tower, trailer, ballast (there might be an option for more lbs.) carbarated engine, not EFI, and i believe thats it.
the marine says they'll be getting a couple more boat in from the states soon. thats about all can say, i was pretty dissapointed that they didn't have the LSV in. |

| I'm sitting with my friend in the room who has the lsv and we've been looking for used nautiques in the 30's to 40's and taylor says (this is for hockeyplayer) that he being a mobius owner, would buy nearly any ski boat over his mobius. (he's had it for 1 1/2 years now and has had several large problems with it. The last one was when the swim deck floated off the back and the boat and was floating in the middle of the lake becuase the bolts that conected it to the stern actually snapped. The dealer fixed the problem free of charge but in my opionion that wouldn't have happend. The engine has run well but thats about the only thing he hasn't had some kind of problem / complaint about. He now says that he would recomend getting a 2 years old naut or MC or Tige or wakesetter over a bran new Mobius that would cost the same price. Basically anything but the bayliner of skiboats. I've also conversed with several other mobius oweners in waco and so far 2 out of 3 say they would have bought something else. The owner who liked it hadn't been around any other ski boats and was still just excited to have a boat. For 40k you can get a bad %#@ boat as long as its not a mobius. |

I always love to hear the friend of a friend of a friend stories.
If what your saying about the platform really did happen, that is amazing that the hardened stainless steel bolts snapped before the fiberglass gave way.
Sorry to hear about all your friends troubles though. _________________ Brent B

Whatever, I know people who have had problems out of their Tige's, Mastercrafts, and Nautiques. Now does that make them bad boats to have.
steve-o that is a rediculous price. i can get you a loaded out LSV right now for under 35K |

My neighbor has a 96 moomba. I have skied behind it for years. It has one of the best wakes for waterskiing of any boat I have been behind. The boat has been bullet proof.
This summer I taught his wife and step son to wakeboard behind my SAN. He will be ordering a new LSV this fall. I cannot wait to have the pleasure of another ride next spring.
Moomba gives you alot of boat for the money. |

I almost bought a moomba. I was a little turned off by the cheap feel and lack of freeboard, and the fact that you feel like you are sitting on the floor, but for the price, I thought I could deal with those issues.
Then I found an 03 malibu for less money, comprably equiped, than a new 04 moomba. I went with the 03 'bu. But if I haden't found the malibu, I probably would have bought the moomba, despite the things that bothered me a little.
(funny, but the thing that bothered me the most was that when I sat on the engine box, (dd) it dented in, like a car hood would. We sit on the malibu engine box all the time, and it never dents in. Just an example of the small differences in quality, perhaps?) _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

He's asking for people to say bad things here. I would also about any purchase. You want to hear the problems people have so you know ahead of time and can decide whether or not to get one.
I would definately check out Sanger for the same price. Their build quality is much better IMO. |

Just curious, which Moomba were you looking at that dented the engine cover? That fiberglass is pretty thick there. I'm surprised. |
