I'm guesing these driver's aren't that good when their sober either...alcohol slows your reaction time, it doesn't force you to go 100MPH, etc...

OttoNP

so what you're saying is...... If you are a good driver you'll pobably be okay driving while drunk/high?

I hope that's not what you meant, but it sure sounds that way.

That's not exactly what I'm talking about, just get tired of everyone blaming alcohol when it's a person's fault. You hear that an accident was caused by a "drunk driver," but I think they should say it was caused by "insert their name here." Also, isn't is just as bad when an accident is from a sober driver driving reckless? It's like when you hear about an accident not involving alcohol it was ok.

I'm not trying to say alcohol doesn't impair your ability to drive, it obviously does. Just that studies are flawed because they don't know what would have happened if the person wasn't drinking and by looking at a crash after the fact and testing for alcohol does not establish a valid cause/effect relationship. This method is frequently used in statistics that are manipulative. We've had access to a breathlyzer before and found that those charts are actually very good at predicted someone's blood alcohol level. It is quite alarming how different people are affected at different BAC's. Some people are seriously messed up at only .02 while others aren't bad at .10.

Some people are better drivers than others, I'm sure there is someone out that that is a better driver at .08 than someone else when they are sober. People are so different and affected so differently by things, it is hard to come up with a general rule. I do think there should be some kind of line where it is illegal, but I think it's difficult to determine.

Also, if you look at the bad drunk driving accidents, they usually are closer related to bad judgement than physical impairment, as in drivers that decide to race, pass illegally, drive 100MPH, etc...

Just to make it clear neither I nor my friends drive above the legal limit and I don't think anyone ever should, but I blame the driver, not drinking.

I agree with you 100% otto. Though it is not a responsible decision to drive under the influence of alcohol not all people drive recklessly when drunk. The accidents that are caused by drivers under the influence are usually also atributed to reckless driving. Im not sayin it's ok to drink and drive or that i support it in anyway but the alcohol is not what causes the accident, the people are.
