I don't think that they affect getting up, maybe a very minute difference..unless they are like huge 2.5 inches on a completley flat board..then they might make a wee bit more difference, but I have never felt a difference in the getting up part, but the riding is a whole different thing

it does make a diff cuz when ur going slow getting up you have WAY less control than when ur at reg speed and if you dont have fins and ur going slow you have a very small amount of control

going slow your fins do not make as much difference going slow..you can spin all over the place if you know how to do it..but also it is much easier than riding reg speed for a beginner. but he was talking about getting up..not riding

jayman101010, and I know that it makes a big difference when riding, just don't think it does for the initial getting up part

Fins shouldn't make a difference getting up, but they might make it harder to stay up since it would make the board looser and less stable while he is trying to get comfortable riding.

Fins will help newbies have more control of the board, but they are more for steering than anything. You can get up while still keeping your board sideways, where your fins are out of the water, so my thoughts would be that fins shouldn't affect you getting out of the water...unless you're a newer rider.

i ride a Hyperlite Big Kahuna with a single 5" fin in the back...I think it would make a difference! My friend's HO also has a 5" fin. He tried to take it off on time. while he was riding, the board came off of his feet and went through his head. It's a dangerous sport.

Mitch3,

Dont stress. Having fins off makes a dif. if you're edging and trickin out but as far as getting up...any person should be able to adapt to a finless board. In fact, I think its much easier to get up w/o fins. Don't let your dad push you around Wink

Yeah, I finally took the fins off my Fluid 137, I can have a lot more fun with it but it got a little hard to control on the rough water. It really made me focus on my edging a whole lot more though. I still get the same pop, w2w is not a problem, the only hard part is setting my edges in to start my approach. Getting up didn't feel any different... P.S. It was a fun board to learn on but I'm ready for some more action, I rode on a Byerly last night and it was amazing Twisted Evil
