For those of you who excel in the computer graphic arts...

How effective can photoshop be at touching up low quality photos (specifically, frames pulled from digital video)? For example, would it be possible to make the pic in my profile semi-presentable?

What do you want to do?? Clearing up the fuzzy action from an already low res image wouldn't be too easy. But if you want to make it look like your riding with Big Bird, well that might be something you can work on...

Did you de-interlace the video frame before you "grabbed" it? Std 60i video is made up of 2 interlaced fields, if you use a de-interlace filter before you do the framegrab you'll generally get better results. Look for a frame without too much blur. One of the inherent problems with stills from video frames is motion blur, which is good for video and bad for stills. That's why wakeboard photos are generally taken at high shutter speeds. If you set your video cam on manual and max the shutter speed you'll get less blurry frames as well. The frames are still only 720X480 which is less than 1 megapixel so don't expect miracles.

I didn't have high expectations, I was just curious as I haven't really used photoshop. Thanks. I did deinterlace, by the way.

This is about all I can do with it. I add a little effect that I came up with that blends several layers together. But giving it a slightly small pic adds an appearance of being sharper.
