Question about storage and cleaning

OK - so I bought my first boat - nothing exceptional - 88 MC PS190. My question is - Do you leave the drain plug out when you store your boat during the week? Mine may be stored outside for 2-3weeks between uses and I don't know if I should leave the plug in it or let it air out. 2nd Question - What do you use to clean your boat with? I see people spraying stuff on their boats after they take them out of the water. Right now, I'm just wiping it down with towels nothing else. Thanks!!

well i dont know about the plug question.... but you should kep the hull clean all the time, so when you want to sell it, it wont look too old. i use what i think is called starbrite hull cleaner, but im not sure if that is the right name. but it keeps all the yellow gunk and stuff from collecting on the hull of your boat. thats about it. o yea, also you can wax the bottom of the boat with car wax if you want... it seems to keep it cleaner longer.

Yeah, do everything you can to help dry the boat out... Leaving the plug out will help whatever water is laying around in your hull to dry out. Helps keep everything you can't see from rusting. ( engine components, ect. ) Just make sure you keep tabs on it. I keep mine with the boat keys at all times. That way I never forget to put it back in before launching..... As for wiping it down, I too am looking for something to use besides just the towel, I am starting to see a little bit of a dull yellow stain that isn't making me happy. Also, try to keep it covered, and if you do, allow for ventilation so that your interior doesn't start to mold. I think you can buy something at your local marina that helps with that.......... good luck.....

I use some really good stuff, problem is, it's pretty pricey. Hammerhead spray wax. I spray and wipe the boat with it right after I pull it out. It has kept my boat looking great all summer. Kind of a cleaner/wax touch up stuff. I like it. You can find it on the web, just do a search for hammerhead spray wax.

Any Ideas on how to get that yellow stain off? The boat is basically white, you can see a pic on my profile. You can't tell the stain is there unless you get up real close. I am just afraid it will get worse. I have been washing it everyother time I go out but no amount of elbow grease seams to take it off.....

Hey All,

Someone showed me some miracle stuff the other day, it's called ON/OFF and you can buy it at Boater's World or West Marine I think, cleaned yellow stain/scum in about a second and a hald wit hjust wiping it on...I'm sure it also stripped the wax as well...but it DID clean!

Don't know what to use for that stain but we always use a 50/50 mix of water and vinegar to wipe it down after taking the boat out of the water. One of my friends has been using it for quite awhile and his boat always looks great. We've been doing that with the new boat all season and it's worked great for waterspots and sludge (especially after a week long houseboat trip with black stuff from generator). Works great and is cheap.

I read in another post that toilet bowl cleaner works good for cleaning a stained hull. Try "The Works" t- bowl cleaner but make sure you put a good coat of wax on the hull afterwards.
